This would have been warm a couple months ago...with Merom released a couple days ago I'd say this is a poor buy now. Prices will keep dropping in the next couple of weeks on this type of old stock. This processor is old now! Pentium M < Core Duo < Core 2
Don't forget to select the "Free 512MB Additional Memory" offer after you click "customize and buy". This will be in the first set of choices on the customize page.
Here is my review:
the good: widescreen, 1gb ram, thinkpad, a/b/g, pci-express, xp-pro, only 4.8 lbs, 3yr warranty
the neutral: Pentium-M (yes, it is not the burning hot core duo, but good enough for most regular stuff)
the bad: 4-cell battery, not sxga+ (right?), no dvd burner

Not sure what this resolution would be called. It could be SXGA. This one has "1280 x 768" resolution, and it is widescreen 14" diagonal -- what is this called?

Beginning of the year this would have been pretty hot for a think pad with good specs, but I agree with waiting a bit for the price drops.
This laptop with 1 gig of emmory is super fast as it is. What else do you need? All this dual core stuff is a marketing BS Slow down a bit guys ... 95% of us use laptops for just browsing internet and watching movies!!! Dual core ... to run 4 browser windows?

You are forgetting that Merom greatly increases battery life. That is the biggest issue by far!

I do agree with the part where this laptop is fast enough for most.
But the part abt dual core being marketing BS is wrong. Not only will dual core help with multiple applications it will also give superior performance when running newer apps which are smp aware. I use my laptop to watch TV from my slingbox while working on email, word processing etc and dual core would definitely be helpful there.
P.S. I am typing this on my pentium m thinpad X41 and it more than suffices most needs but what many mentioned is correct. with core duo and core 2 duo out this may not be as hot as you think it is especially from a one year down the line standpoint.

Lets think about this- 3 year warrenty (value $150?) I love the SD Slot XP Pro $99 value ( My son tells me its worth the money- I don't understand why) Free shipping
No DVD record (Don't think I used it on my notebook yet)
Tell me which Dell - sub 5lbs comes close- in value.
i'm typing this on thinkpad X31 and have no desire to take my HP dv2000t dual core laptop out of the box... 1.6GHz centrino is more than enough as well as 3 hr battery life. how often do most of us need more than 3-4 hours out of laptop battery? a couple of times a year? slingbox works fine on centrino platform as well. this deal is great! i just cant let go my good old X31, they dont make them this good anymore
