My Honda SUV came with a cassette player/radio in it. How hard is it to replace it with this? Obviously I have no knowledge of these things.

any review??

I believe this is made by Pyle, I was looking for an SD reading radio last month. Looks exactly the same.

This unit is made by RoadMaster. Here is a link to some more details and comments thanks to a quick google search

virtual reality, eh? hmmm...

edit: on stroth's link above, I think the comments there pretty much say it all...

This is also available in store for $79.97, but you get hit with taxes. I bought it several weeks ago and installed in our RV. Very happy with it, works as advertised. Seems to have problems with WMA files (DRM and non-DRM) despite its stated ability to play them, but so does my high-end unit in my truck. I'd buy it again!

Hondas and Toyotas have made their factory radios fairly universal. Usually popping out a couple clips and screws in the dash will allow easy access to the radio underneath. You'll need a wire harness also.

Pictures are a little different, but features seem the same...

i have an offbrand "SoundStorm" head unit with USB and SD and absolutely love it...but, mine has a limit of reading 500 mp3s...anyone know if this one has a limit? for $80 it might be worth upgrading.

That's pretty cheap. Good post OP!

What other headunits out there have SD/USB support for comparison? I love my older JVC MP3 player to death, but it has no USB/memory card support.

I'm waiting for a reputable company like Pioneer to make a SD/USB headunit in the $200 range.

Sturmie said: i have an offbrand "SoundStorm" head unit with USB and SD and absolutely love it...but, mine has a limit of reading 500 mp3s...anyone know if this one has a limit? for $80 it might be worth upgrading.well, from what the Roadmaster "support" just told me, the unit only supports 128 songs at a time...so if you have a flash drive (or ext drive) with more than 128 songs on it, you're SOL according to him.

can anyone verify this?

if you are clueless like I do, go and order from Crutchfield.com,
they have good service and usually include all tools/instruction that fit your model.
price is okay.
(Last time I order over 129 for free shipping and with $20 coupon)

I just want to recommend using a USB cable rather than plugging your drive directly in. The vibrations and bumps of the care will eventually damage the USB socket and/or your USB drive if you leave the drive plugged directly into it.

This is a great price, thanks OP.

Anyone have a rough idea of how the sound quality of this unit might compare to the factory (non-Bose) in my '06 Mazda 6?

The price is decent, but I have a clarion mp3 unit and it can go another couple years before i need to spend more on the car. Thanks...

Awesome, thanks for posting!

So can your comments...Thanks

How much does this normally retail for?

This is the regular price on the unit. I bought it from the store 2 months ago for the same price.

Kenwood has a USB capable KDC-MP532U for around $150. It will allso play non-DRM AAC files. It will work with SD cards using a single slot SD reader.

that's what i was thinking too. it is a non-name brand type player with many features (much like getting a cheap DVD player made by aspire digital or something). now if the kenwood unit that the above poster mentioned was for $80 bucks, THAT would be hot.

Does that mean a 4 gig sd card would be useless since it can only hold 128 songs. That would be pretty weak. I can't believe they would limit it like that.

thats what the Aux Input is for. sucks that you y mahave to use your mp3 player's battery life though

Maybe it can let you have multiple folders, each with a max of 128 files/songs. Of course, this is just a guess on my part....

Available at your local target store for the same price.

I brought this unit from WalMart back in April and installed in my Honda. I am very happy with this unit.
It can play over 200 songs on my SD card (1 gig) with no problem. It said that it can support up to a 2 Gig SD card.
It also worked with 1 Gig USB drive and the CD players played my 700MB CD with MP3 songs with no problem.

This is a good unit for the price.

installation of these things is a pain. Buy from Circuit City and get free installation and good deals

ajny said: Maybe it can let you have multiple folders, each with a max of 128 files/songs. Of course, this is just a guess on my part....just spoke to larry at Roadmaster...he said that they never tested with that many songs, but they are getting a lot of reports from customers that 128 is limit...after that, it won't read any more tracks...my SoundStorm does the same at 500 tracks.

larry said he's been swamped with calls and hasn't had a chance to test himself...i'm assuming if multiple customers are reporting this, then 128 is most likely going to be the limit...i have a feeling that most people that have a head unit with usb/sd are geeks (like me) and have a pretty good idea what they're doing when it comes to technology; therefore, the reports are prolly accurate.

I would stick to the factory radio. The only upside you will have on this will be Mp3/sd/usb, assuming that your car only has a cd player. But do not expect a huge difference in sound quality. Might be better but not by much. If you want a MP3 then go for it...Make sure you look at it at WalMart before buying it, as it might look completely out of place with its color schemes/design...

I saw this unit at my local WalMart, but only the display unit left. eBay has this for around $100 (with shipping) so it's nice to know that WalMart carries it.

If you're copying them as "data files" and they're not working in other players, double check that the windows security didn't lock them down. I copied half a dosen CDs after windows media player 10 before I realized that the security turned back on. Make sure you turn off "copy protect music" under tools - options - rip music. I have found no great way to remove the security after the fact, so you should just delete the songs on your computer and rip them again with the protection off.

Skipping 40 Messages...

I bought one of these from WalMart about 2 months ago. It is buggy. It does not read all of the tracks properly on my SD card, and the USB won't work at all with my wife's Creative mp3 flash player (1gb - it should work but doesn't). Lately, it has suddenly stopped reading the CD, and then locks up and won't respond to commands. Eventually it comes back to life on its own, or I can take the front panel off and reboot. But even the CD player has been flakey. Sound quality is fine. I would not buy it again, knowing what I know now.
