reason for cancelling is that I originally thought this card had the high end DACs, but apparently it's the same electronics as the XtremeMusic. only the Elite Pro has the high quality DACs. being that I'm not much of a gamer, this card won't really be a step up from my M-Audio Revo.

No, only the Elite Pro.

the Elite Pro has a $100 rebate, so it comes out to about $235...this is a pretty hot price for the EP...I want it, but $235 for a SC is tough to reconcile with.

dilemna...should I keep the X-Fi Platinum or refuse delivery?

I currently have an M-Audio Revolution 5.1. There hasn't been a driver update for XP since 07/2004. Does anyone know if M-Audio is planning on releasing Vista drivers? If not, I'd probably be needing a new SC in a few months anyway, which would make this card a keeper.
