I appreciate the response to the overwhelming demand to return to the old rating system, but I have to ask why it was so abruptly changed to begin with. It would have been very nice to have had a beta roll-out, like with the new site, where people could try it out and give their comments and the bugs could be worked out before it becomes a fiasco. Please consider this with future changes.

...now could you bring back the grocery coupon forum? (hey, i tried!!)

And For Sale / For Trade (while we're at it)

Green for both ideas

Need larger bars like was seen with the boost so it will take lot more positive votes to max out the bar. Previous system maxed out the green bar even with few positive votes.

I am also impressed by the way that, after they changed the system for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way, they then slapped together another bad system, all without any input, discussion, or real explanation.

My impression being, how amazing they don't understand FW and FWers after all this time.

Tim for president. go ahead and boost this one last time.

Any of you ever been to www.newgrounds.com?

It's a flash animation site. Has nothing to do with hot deals, but...

They have a rating system for their flash movies.

1. The more you vote, the more rating power you get.
2. You are remembered as a good/neutral/bad voter (shows whether most of your votes are high or low).
3. Your voting power is also based on how you vote comparted to others. For example, if a movie has a 4.5/5 rating with 10000 votes, and you give it a 0 out of 5, and you do this consistently, your negatives will start to have less weight.

I'm sure some of that could be borrowed and implemented here.

This is still the best idea.

Im sure something is needed to boost postings, as this site was lagging behind others for new deal posts.

I think some new feature is needed to facilitate deal findings and cash savings like FatCash but what else?

Incentives to posters?! Contests? What???
I have some ideas if FW staff is interested.

Good decision!

Along with the "Not Interested" feature on threads, could you please investigate a "Not Interested" feature like many other sites do so that individual users can be ignored?

It seems that part of the motivation for the changes was to eliminate friction caused by some of the more negative users here. Being able to hide and ignore certain users' posts would make my experience much more pleasant.

Thanks. Happy Happy Day!

Good decision!

I can't wait. Thanks for listening!

Thank you for bringing back the old rating system. As I joked last night, would you replace the traffic light with stars?

As a programmer, I have to say that the whole boost/star thing was the worst decision ever made. It's not like changing the css template of the site. The new rating system changes the way people use this site and it's bad. It changes the fundamental way members decide which deal is good and which deal is bad.

There are lots of stuffs needed to be fixed on Fatwallet.
We still don't have a good search engine and there are also some features that we wanted for so long.
Can you guys fix the https/http link problem so it doesn't bring me to paypal?
Can you guys add auto linking feature so I don't have to copy and paste the link?
Can you guys add PM friends list so I can turn on my PM without receiving spam from newbie asking me what is dealpass?
...

I guess this suggestion was made by some business ananlyst who has no idea how people use FW. The same reason why we needed some fancy green design.

However, there are good reasons for FW to get rid of the red. I am sure there are sponsors complaining about the red rating that they always get. It's not good for a company's image when a thread is rated red. Pretty sure TD hates the Red bar system.

Keep in mind. It's the content and the members make the FW big. There is always SD + Ebates if FW decided to go against the majority. Do you wonder why most of the deals are now originated from SD?

Btw, people complain because they care. FW should be glad that people complain instead of leaving quietly. There were some senior members over-reacting and got banned. I hope they will be unbanned.

Have you implemented a way to stop members who only vote negative, or members who are interested in 'hiding' good deals through using negative votes?

LOVE the 'not interested', very, very helpful.

Members posting REd/Neg should HAVE to post a reason why when making neg comments. this will marginally help deter BS ratings.

i still hope to see a better system in the future...

There is one user that floats through the forums spreading red everywhere for no valid reason other than to fill some hole in his life. Many know exactly who that is. Looks like he will be back in business, since the staff is doing nothing to correct the behavior.

Thank you.

I'm glad you learned your lesson and have realized that yes, sometimes our input beforehand is very important. Thank you for realizing the error of your ways.

Is there a way to incorporate the BOOST into the old system?

Life is all about getting boosted!

This is still the best idea and would make all-negative contributers such as RightHere meaningless.

People can counter all this easily and make no sense to implement it.
Example,
1) that mean you just need to make meaningless vote all the time. Actually hurt the voting sytem
2) so all that means is you have to vote green as much as you vote red. So RightHere just need to make meaningless green on meaningless post to get himself back to neutral. Also going to hurt the voting system
3) make no sense. Some expert that really pay attention to that item know it is not a good deal but a bunch of new member think it is good deal. So 5 vote green (all new member) and 1 vote red (senior member that know the price of this item very well). That why the expert voting power is affected by the newbie?
And how about people see a thread that's already all GREEN and they just just in to GREEN it just so they can gain back the voting power??? Too many way to work around this.

I think 1 vote for each member is the best. It is simple to understand and each of us as a community can easily self regulate. Making unnecessary change like this will just let the people know how to take advantage of it misuse it.

No they shouldn't. That would defeat one purpose of the ratings.
