I was thinking of trying this myself. Could you give some details on how easy this was to accomplish? Sorry, I'm a CE newbie and detailed install instructions would be very helpful.
Thanks! Russ |

If anyone's interested, I just returned mine at the Fry's in Fremont and they slapped a $169 sticker on it. Don't know how long it takes to make it back to the rack though. |

I am sorry there are no current updates for this model. The 3050 have all the maps on SD card and are the newest software and map data. It was discussed. We are still working on bugs in the software.

Anthony,
Thanks for posting in this thread.
Does this mean you anticipate some updates for the 3240? Once you get the bugs out, there will possibly an update to the latest version of iGo? Or is that upgrade idea dead?
Thanks, Russ |

To those of you who got in on the deal with MyGuide 3240, and are wondering about how to update the maps and software.
I succesfully installed iGuidance v3 on this unit. The routing of this software is much better than the included MyGuide software. iGuidance uses the latest maps from Navteq (just as Garmin and Google) and it includes all of USA and Canada.
You can buy the DVD for $99 from here: http://www.semsons.com/ignavsof.html You are actually getting two softwares for one price, both the laptop version and the PocketPC version is included.
To summarize this deal: GPS hardware MyGuide 3240 with the latest Sirf-III chip $199 iGuidance v3 software for both PC and PocketPC $99 ==> For a total of less than $300 you get an All-in-one navigation system with the latest Navteq maps, i.e. you get the same good routing and user interface as much more expensive Garmin units. |

Would appreciate much if you can elaborate the how-to procedure to install the new map software on this unit. Thanks.

Okay it took some trial and error before I got it working perfectly.
First of all, there is a good explanation of what dll's are needed for pocket PC applications here: http://www.wincesoft.de/html/ppc_apps_on_hpc_s.html
In our specific case of iGuidance v3 on a MyGuide3240, the missing dll's are aygshell.dll note_prj.dll mfcce300.dll doclist.dll
The problem is that there are many different versions of those files if you search on google, it takes some time and trial & error before you get the combination that works.
The following combination works perfectly on my unit: aygshell.dll and note_prj.dll from "Pack Dll" at this french website http://www.teaser.fr/~vdisanzo/xania/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=36&func=selectcat&cat=1 mfcce300.dll from "Pack Dll specifiques" from the same french website doclist.dll from this japanese link http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/dummydll.zip
When you have downloaded the above files, installation is easy. Insert the DVD into your desktop computer and follow instructions for the installation program. Copy the above four dll's into the \\Storage Card\\iNav iGuidance\\ folder (it's also possible to put those four dll's into the internal \\Windows\\ folder, but I think it's better to put them on the storage card, that way, if you do a hard reset, you don't need to reinstall anything)
Your gps is now ready to go.

Pretty sure they all do. I got mine at Tempe, AZ Fry's for $250, then price adjusted to $199 a few weeks ago. They might be gone by now. |

Thanks greendeal!!! Going to check this out. iGuidance looks like a good replacement.
Did anyone else manage to get TomTom running on theirs? |

greendeal, thanks for the info! i have a couple questions though. did you choose to install iguidance on the internal memory or did you decide to put everyting on the storage card? And also, for doclist.dll, theres two of them... one in the folder ARM and one in MIPS. which did you use?
edit: i installed everything onto the storage card and i used the doclist.dll from the folder ARM. it works! thanks so much for your help!
Also to everyone doing this, make sure you put the right settings in iGuidance once you get it running or else it won't get a satellite lock. I had to change the com port settings before mine worked. The settings that worked for me are:
Baud Rate: 4800 (this was set by default) Com Port: Com 2 (com 1 was default) |

Greendeal, thanks a bunch. Going to check if there is any left in my local store now...
By the way, pardon my ignorance but I recall vaguely that Garmin is using MapSource in its GPS devices, isn't it? Is iGuidance Garmin PocketPC version? |

I was at the fry's in Tempe, AZ last week and at the time, they had tons of these units for $199 or less. Just inside the case i probably saw maybe 6 of them. 1 brand new at $199 and the rest were open box for $189 or less.
The open boxes are probably fine since when this deal was initially up a month ago, i saw only brand new boxes and scored one for myself. I guess everyone probably returned it when they found it had the old firmware. I'm actually REALLY happy i decided to keep it since so many people like Greendeal found ways to boot it to winCE and install better pocket pc gps apps! |

I'm stumped! I had a 3240 and almost immediately after getting it, the screen went blank. My guide wanted me to reurn the unit at my expense and could offer no phone support, so, I returned it.
What stumps me is why would you buy a Typhoon 3240 for say $169.99 - $199.99 and pay another $100.00 for the IGuidence software for a grand total of at least $269.99, When you could simply get a Garmin C320 for $269.99. At least with the Garmin, you are getting a quality product from a reputable company and the latest software (VERSION 8) With the Garmin, any problems, you call Garmin.
With the Typhoon, say something goes wrong, you call Myguide, you have to ship it to them and they reload the original (old) software onto the unit. Then, you have to go through and reinstall everything again.
Seems like alot of work.
Just my two cents! |
