You can use pin number (which they will provide when u switch )for calls to be made from a phone other than ur home phone, and you get billed on a single bill (together with your home phone usage and calls made from any other phone using the pin). Same rates whether u use home phone or any other phone including your cell. ..Quality is great..Never had a single dropped call/any trouble.

Do you need to switch your long distance carrier in order to use Startec ?
I am pretty happy with my current LD provider (3 cents / minute) and don't want to change that.

STARTEC IS NOT GOOD!!! THEY CHARGE 1.95 MONTHLY FEE. I THINK G3TELECOM AND RELIENCE INDIA ARE THE BEST!!!

Don't forget about onesuite.com, people. Depending on the region of India you're calling, it can go as low as 9 cents per minute. The advantage here is that onesuite has been around forever and so they're reliable, and there's no annoying PIN or anything. They just added VoIP service, too, at the same rates as their online calling cards. You can get an account and use it for both regular calling and VoIP calling.

I have been using voipcheap.com for 3 weeks now using their VoIP service extensively and have been very happy. Unlike onesuite.com, the price seems to be same everywhere in India, including mobile calls (at least those that I call) and it comes to about 9.1c/min depending on the conversion rate on the day you purchase credit. They also provide a way to use the service from a regular line, but there will be a few cents (like 6, 7c) of connection charge, so if you make a say 12min call, it will `workout to be an extra 0.5c/min.

My experience is different with onesuite. It used to be good.. but in recent years
(post reliance era), the service and quality is got worse. I still have the
a/c for a backup but I'm planning to ditch it once I drain the minutes left.

I've had onesuite for years and have never had a problem, no static or bad connections, so personally I'll vouch for them any time. The VoIP phone system makes it even better now, I think.

Just saw on TV and wanted to share as I myself would like my phone bills to go down. But did not try yet. WWW.G3telecom.com is offering rates at 9c/min to india and to many other countries. I find this better than reliance though I did not try quality. According to them no hidden charges or monthly fees. Maybe will give it a try during this festive season.
Happy festive season to all

On diwali they are charging ony 4.9 cents per minutes

Thanks for the reply Yumraj, this will be my first time getting a card for India. I was going to go with stana card, Is this a good card? The maint fee wont be a concern as its a monthly fee not weekly. My wife and kids will be in India for about 30 days. I plan to start of with a $20 card.

thanks

I have been using www.teliage.com for the past three months and I can say their service is better than reliance india. It works just like reliance - u can setup multiple phone numbers for pinless dialing. You can also setup shortcuts for frequently called numbers. They charge around 8.4c/min during day time and 7.4c for offpeak hours (I think its 12AM to 7AM CST).
