I just read a review that said the i3 and the 320 would not be good units for hiking or geocaching. Now I am questioning if there is a unit that would work well in the car and for hiking? Does anyone have any thoughts on a unit for multi use? |

I have this unit already and really enjoy it. Now the wife gets one also.
For the unit that you have, did you buy a larger capacity SD card? I am thinking a 1 GB SD card, but don't know if all of north america (canada included) will fit on it. Any insight? Thanks.
Supraman,
I am using mine with a 1 gig SD card. It loaded the complete US. 2 gig SD cards were not available then. If I can find a cheap 2 gig SD card, I will get it and load everything onto it. We should be able to get the newest version (v.8) which will have more of the POI's. These are really handy when traveling!!! For everyday use, a 1 gig SD card will work fine.
Enjoy,
Boatmanbob
Thanks Boatmanbob......now I gotta find a good deal on a 2 gig SD card........... |

1 GB fits all of North America, no advantage to the 2 GB card.
With the version 6 software it only fit about 2/3rds of north America. I just performed my free upgrade from version the 6 to the version 8 software and the 1 Gb SD card fits the entire north America map and POI. My understanding is that the version 7 software also fits onto a 1 GB card, I think it has something to do with it running on NT.

Is this unit that much better than the i3? I know the i3 is smaller, which is appealing. But, I'm assuming that the peformance of this unit is better??? Can anybody compare the two?
The C320 screen is bigger for one thing 3.5" (diagonal) the c320 and 1.5" i3. The C320 has a built in rechargeable battery and the I3 uses AA batteries. The i3 uses scroll wheel rather than c320 touch screen.
The biggest plus is probably the processing speed or re-routing speed. The c320 is way faster than i3 in my opinion. With c320 you will have glare problem, which you can easily buy a visor for it, though I don't know how well the visor works.

by the way does costco American Express still offer price protection?
The Business card had it, I just got notification that the program will be ending as of 10/1/06. I don't know if this is across the board for the few other cards that still had this program. I just know that its been a lot harder to use this benefit since they no longer allow you to PM websites. I already got 1 of these from Outpost and love it, now I can order another one as a gift and despite the tax I'll have Costco's return policy for peace of mind. |

thnx OP. Been waiting to dive in to the GPS, and buying a good base one from Costco seems like a no brainer.

The biggest disadvantage of c320/330 (from my Honda Accord Navigation system) is: you can't move around the map and go to a place off the current location.
For example, I wouldn't able to drive to the park underneath the Golden Gate Bridge with c320, because I couldn't "look" ahead. |

This is the proper map for the StreetPilot C320. Version 8.00 of the DVD is now available, and will fit on a 1g SD card.

You can. Its a pain though. You have to go through the menu to do it and I recommend to NOT do that when driving. |

The C320/330/340 has a browse map feature which allows you to wander around your location using the touch screen. |

I made a visor for mine...just have to make sure you don't cover the antenna. the visor cuts down on direct sunlight from above but it does nothing for any glare which reflects from within the car. I am thinking about getting the external antenna so I can place the gps in the center console to help w/glare. |

Do these GPS units warn you of an accident or other road obstacle ahead in real time? I would use it in my morning commute and would appreciate the advance notice. |

I am novice to GPS. C320 does not have text-to-speech feature as well as it doesn't voice prompt the roads "name". According to you user community how important and useful to have the GPS speaking out the road name for you next turn?
Another question is how easy is to move the suction cup from car-to-car. I want to use the GPS unit in rental cars. What are the alternatives - beanbag, dash mount etc.? |

two questions, 2. I see comments and not anyone buying... If i want a good GPS that tells me direction when I am lost will this do? Does it have the option to find address from a given telephone number?
2. they charge a 5% searcharge for non members .. is it a problem if i put in someone's member id? |

It does not have text-to-speech option. I belive the C350 does and that unit is around $500. It's not all that important unless you're in NYC where you have a lot of Y shaped roads. Even if you missed a turn GPS system will re-route the map for you. Ofcourse the C350 also provides you with traffic info whereas C320 does not.

I think I'm gonna go and buy one this morning at the local Costco if they carry it.
Don't care for text to voice whatsoever.

I would call first. I wanted to get the i3 in the earlier deal, and the store only had one Magellan model ($499). The web site had probably a dozen or more GPS units, so it told me that selection is far better on the site. |

My brother has a 340, and I used it recently when we went on a road trip and I loved it. So my question is, what is the difference between the 320 and 340? I have looked quite a bit and I don't understand--hoping that someone "in the know" could help out without giving me the standard "google is your friend" response. Thanks! |
