Does this unit comes with AC wall charger besides the 12V cigarette charger? Some Amaz0n customers reported missing AC wall charger. |

Has anyone tried this unit in downtown NYC? Would it be able to lock on satellite signals in urban canyon? My old Magellan 4000xl couldn't, but I never tried any Garmin units there.
I cannot decide if I should get this, or the more expensive ones (Nuvi, maybe) using SiRF III chip. I will be using it in downtown NYC most of the time.

haven't gone into the city yet, but in Queens the unit's pretty good. got my from the Outpost deal for $299. here's what i've noticed so far:
- touch screen a definite plus. i don't think i could ever use the scroll button on the i3. - the voice prompt tells you "turn right in xxx feet". It does not tell you "turn right on Main". Street names wouldn't help much on highway entrances. - 1gb SD card fits entire NA map from the DVD. i just left out a couple Canadian provinces, so there's some room left on the card - The trip planning software that you can get has a route option for waypoints. BUT the C320 does not have the route feature. So a trip that you plan with routes ends up being a custom POI - suction cup's pretty easy to put on & remove. there's only a slight suction ring left on the windshield - it doesn't find a place by telephone # - it doesn't have real time traffic or accident conditions - I haven't figured out how to re-route if there's a traffic jam. - not many North American custom POIs available online

Works just fine throughout Manhattan.

I am not as familiar with GPS as much as I want to either. But can someone tell me just by brands alone, assuming TTS is available for both, if TOMTOM Go is better or GARMIN?
Please advise. |

I just jumped in on this deal and used it for the past 2 days. I am a GPS junkie. I've had the TomTom Go 500, PDA with TomTom, PDA with Pocketmap Navigator, PDA with Iguidance 3.0 (Latest), and the recent FW deal on the MyGuide 3050. The Garmin came with the latest 8.0 maps and still is missing my new subdivision that has been here for 1.5 yrs. The MyGuide has it listed with the new streets that were just built last year. For those who don't know, there are basically 2 major map companies, Telatlas and Navteq. The TomTom, Pocketmap Navigator and MyGuide uses the TeleAtlas. Iguidance and Garmin uses the Navteq maps. What I found so far, is that the Navteq Maps are more accurate, but the maps are not as up to date. The TeleAtlas is more up to date, but less accurate. (Accurate meaning it says the house is on the right, but actually it's on the left. Or that it gets me to the address, but it actually is several more houses down.)
The text to street function is highly overated. I had it on the Pocketmap navigator and comparing it with all these others it makes little difference on the navigation. When they tell you to turn right ahead, they tell you "In 25 feet turn right, then it dings". Almost all the time, there is only one major street or opening to turn right on to in 25 feet. So you dont even need to look for the street name, just look for the opening. I don't even use the Pocketmap Navigator anymore. I use the MyGuide and the Garmin (2 different Map companies) if can't find something on one, I use the other. So those wanting text to speech, I can honestly say that there is no benefit to the navigation aspect, purely cosmetic for coolness of saying the street name. Hope this helps. |

Both are very good devices. Quick boot up and satellite acquisition. I gave TOMTOM away because maps not as accurate. For the price, the Garmin is a great deal. TomTom is usually $100 more. I don't see that it has any more functions to justify paying the extra money. So for the money, Garmin is the way to go. TextToSpeech again is highly overated. Directions on Garmin is dead on accurate enough to get you turning when it's time to turn. I've never missed a street when it was time to turn or turned on the wrong street. There is a little learning curve on both devices, but once you get the hang of it, navigation is a breeze.
Oh by the way, Garmin has a software where you can upload to your device and mark where the RED LIGHT cameras are and it will notify you when you get close. They just installed it here in Houston, so let's me know to be careful going through that intersection. You can upload custom Points of Interest (POI's) as well. Here is the link: POI Loader |

FYI: No unit on the marked will do that. That data does not come from any GPS satellite.

Actually, XM Radio's NavTraffic feature is built into the following self-contained GPS units:
Garmin Streetpilot 2730 Garmin 7200, 7500 Garmin Zumo 550
(Info from http://www.xmradio.com/xmnavtraffic/get_nav.jsp)
However, all the units are very expensive. Anyhow OP, green for the GPS unit as it's a great unit for the money! |

some other garmins gps units like the c340 has TMC FM traffic capability. you have to buy the FM TMC receiver separately but I understand that the FM TMC coverage is limited to major metro areas. |

The C320 sold by Amazon ($309.99) still lists the AC wall adapter as being "In the box".

I bought one of these a while back when costco had them for $350. Great units and highly recommended. For those that are interested, I asked costco about pricematching since they have that infinite return policy and they told me costco only pricematch's online for 30 days. It doesn't make much sense to me but they would rather I buy a new one and return the 5 month old unit instead of just refunding the $80. I haven't decided if I'll go through the trouble. If anyone finds a way to get costco to pricematch, please post it for the rest of us.
