Edit by Mod- We have decided at this point we do not wish to be associated with links that do not go to the original offer. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but we feel it is for the best.

Free is always good! Free download of Acronis True Image 7.

Although it is a free deal, I thought it is hot and so posted it in hot deals. The current version is 9 but version 7 appears to be more stable.
Thanks to purelander at dslreports. Thread over at dslreports: dslreports

This software is similar to Norton Ghost. Software description from the website: Complete data backup and disaster recovery software for home and home office users that can protect family pictures, videos, music, and important documents stored on your home PC. PC World review. PC Magazine review.

It appears that the site above is getting hammered There is an alternative download location.
1) After you get your serial you get a password.
2) With that password you can create an account at Acronis.com.
3) Go to MY ACCOUNT > REGISTERED PRODUCTS on the Acronis website
4) Then click on "Acronis True Image 7.0 (English)"
5) Then click on "Download installation file"

The file obtained from location 1 and the multiple files you can obtain from location 2 have different file names, but the contents are identical.

Good luck and keep on trying. Congrats to those who got in.

Does it go against the TOS of this site or FW if someone starts a torrent? It would be a good way for FW members to get these kind of downloads.

Click here to get your free serial number for Acronis True Image 7

Did you go to the website in the OP?

thx guys. I need to read more.

Also the registration form didn't work too well in FireFox (the drop-downs weren't working) but it worked fine in IE. Mind you, my FF may just be broken

Acronis TI vs. Ghost
ATI FTW!

nevermind.

How big is the file ? Got 15M and counting !

22 megs

This version is outdated. I don't think it has USB and DVD burning support. But you can't beat free

I just got in on the 160GB External MyBook deal that has been all the rage on this site.

Is this good software to use to backup my computer? Or should I just buy Ghost?

Where can you get version 7? I only get the opportunity to download a 15 day trial of Workstation v9.1.

Thanks

Cant get through to the ftp site . Nice find OP

Guys, if you can't get to the download, don't fret. At least signup for the license key NOW while it's available. You'll then be able to download the program itself in due time.

Thanks again OP!

dvpatel said: speechman said: I slipped in under the wire. It installs fine and is backing up my system right now. It does support backing up to dvds ..sort of (not natively). I think this version is designed to only backup to cds, but you can make many 700meg (pick fixed file size..700meg is the largest choice you have) files and put them onto dvds.

Here is some information from the User guide of TrueImage 8.0 that I found on their website.

How can I burn Acronis True Image images to DVD disks?
Acronis True Image can burn images to DVD disks under Windows if you have DVD UDF recording software installed. The DVD disk must be formatted. Currently, the program supports at least the following DVD recording software:
roxio DirectCD — optional component of roxio Easy CD Creator
• Ahead InCD — available on the Nero Web site freely for Ahead Nero Burning Rom users (usually bundled with Nero)
• Veritas DLA and all its OEM versions (e.g. HP DLA)
• Pinnacle InstantCD/DVD
In general, the program also supports all other DVD UDF burst recording software, but the aforementioned applications were tested by Acronis for compatibility with Acronis True Image.
To enable image recording to DVD in Acronis True Image, you should do the following:
• Install DVD UDF recording software.
• Format DVD disks. DVD+RW and DVD-RW disks can be formatted in any of the aforementioned applications, while DVD-R and DVD+R formatting is currently supported by roxio DirectCD only.
• Run Acronis True Image, insert a formatted DVD disk into your DVD+RW or DVD-RW drive and create an image. No other special actions are required.
Images stored on DVD disks can be restored under Windows and when Acronis True Image is loaded from its boot disk.
There is another way to burn an image to a DVD disk. Using Acronis True Image, you can create an image on your hard disk and burn it using the installed DVD recording application to a DVD disk afterwards. You will be able to restore images from such disks under Windows and when Acronis True Image is loaded from the bootable media.

Well that sucks, I want bootable DVD's, that is my only gripe about this software. Sure I can do some CD's but it can be a helluva lot of disks for an 8GB backup. Ghost is way too much hassle and TI's Secure Zone is the next best thing, but even thats giving me trouble now. . Come on TI, bootable DVD's (DL) is what we want.
