There is an Amazon BBC DVD Sale which claims up to 50% savings. For the items that are at 50% (like Faulty Towers @ $30) it is indeed a good deal.

Unfortunately, several other items like the Black Adder series are at lower savings and prices not better than DDD.

Very cool OP. Picked up Only Fools & Horses season 6 for $29.97. It's $41 on DDD. Green for you.

Edit to say that I couldn't resist The Vicar of Dibly, so I picked that up as well.

"I, Claudius" is only 20% off. Perhaps the best miniseries ever. However, at Amazon.co.uk it is much cheaper, and uncensored! This, of course, requires viewing the DVD with a multi-zone, multi-system DVD player, which:

    * are the cheapest kind of DVD players - I bought one for less than $20 recently!. If you buy an expensive device (e.g. Sony or Pioneer) you will not be able to watch it

    * are currently illegal in the US, because of the DMCA law (not that anyone will prosecute you)

Both these weird issues are a subject for a different time and place, though.

good stuff there.

thanks for posting this.

I'd also recommend Yes,Minister and Yes, Prime Minister - excellent comedy and still funny today.

The well-intentioned but not over-burdened with brains government minister Jim Hacker who often makes gaffes yet ends up as running the country as Prime Minister because of or inspite of his advisers. Sound familiar?

thanks OP! i'm very tempted to get fawlty towers for the rewatchability...

Dr Who is too expensive even with the price drop. I loved the old series with Tom Baker.

Most of the good stuff is only 25-30% off

"Boo-kay residence; the lady of the house speaking!"

The Office, AbFab, the Buccaneers, Good Neighbors, Are You Being Served? (My poor pu$$j got caught out in the rain last evening!), As Time Goes By, Black Adder...

I could spend way too much money here, for I loves me some Beeb. Thanks, OP!

Are You Being Served is not much of a bargain. I've been watching it for a while, and it has been cheaper. It's actually cheaper on DeepDiscountDVD right now.

Fawlty Towers (Manuel!) is a good price, Mrs. Richards. P. Off! Is this a piece of your brain?

Check DVD Price Search to get a general idea of going prices...they've not updated to reflect this sale, though.

Good deal on the Keeping Up Appearances box set as well.

I love MI-5, but even on sale these prices are way too high to tempt me to buy...

Dennis

The Fawlty Towers set is actually only about $14 cheaper than usual, but that's good enough for me.

red dwarf is still normal price

I fail to see how this "sale" is hot.

Do you have a dvd player which can play Region 2? If so, consider buying Spooks (MI-5) from Amazon.co.uk. I have found them to be much cheaper on many items including shipping

BTW, the price for Spooks, and many others tends to go up and down with regularity. I just keep a bunch of dvds in my cart and check daily to see if the price has changed. Incidentally, I just checked and for S1, S2, & S3, it would be about $66 SHIPPED to the States, about $50 cheaper than what the US Amazon is charging.

Amazon.co.uk

PS, I heard that MI-5 was sort or edited for US audiences. Have only seen the first few eps of Spooks S1 so can't tell you more specifics.

does anyone remember a late 80's mini series with Nigel Havers called "the Charmer"
where he plays a conman. It's been awhile but I remember really liking it.
I guess it's not a BBC series.

You mean this?
The Charmer

As aired on A&E they were edited. On the episodes from N3tflix (the same ones Amaz0n, DDD, etc sell) there are some additional scenes. The one that stands out is a bar one of the spooks goes into is a nudie bar - clearly not shown on TV

I think one of my players can be made non-region specific or I can change the region. So you are saying $66 US TOTAL for all 3 seasons shipped?

Dennis
Tasha Yar's least favorite phrase? "Insufficient Data"

Yes, at least as of when I checked last night. The price changes regularly for Spoooks. Once you go through checkout it is cheaper than what you see on the page for each item.

When did Amaz0n start using USPS for shipping? My order shipped on the 20th and I have not yet received it. Amaz0n said I should wait until the 8th before contacting them again.

Just like "Top Gear" on Discovery Channel....

That's one of the best shows on the Beeb IMNSHO

On the subject of shows changed for US audiences - have any of you seen the original UK version of Queer as Folk?

I have the first dvd but have yet to watch it. Heard it was much better than the US version.

They're starting to use media mail every chance they get now - Bezos is all caught up in investing in (more) new technology and I'm not sure anyone's minding the store. I DEFINITELY won't count on them for Xmas this year - their c.s., packing and shipping have really become slow and unreliable. I've never had so many orders cancelled or as much merchandise arrive damaged or broken as during this past year w/ Amazon.

I was excited for a moment and was expecting a good deal on "Coupling".
There is absolutely no deal on this. I would have to do with PVR recorded ones for now.

If you want Coupling it is usually MUCH cheaper to get it from Amazon.co.uk. I got the first three seasons that way for way less than what the US version would be including shipping. Of course you need to have a region free player, too.

Just checked and the prices aren't so good right now. When I got them a few months ago it was £5.97 - £6.97/season.

I actually watched this show thinking it was some form of comedy show after reading that it had won some type of award.

Imagine my surprise when I realised what the actual subject manner

I watched a few episiodes but then decided it was a bit too "in your face" (pun intended) for a straight geezer like myself.

If anybody likes "way out" comedy see if they have "The League of Gentlemen" it is a hoot!
