University Computers is selling the Sony VAIO BX640 (1.66C2D/512mb/60gb/Combo/14") for $599 or $799 after
$600 if you trade-in a Sony VAIO or $400 if you trade-in any other laptop
They also have a very good deal on the Sony VAIO SZ340 (1.66C2D/512mb/60gb/Combo/13.3" screen/1" thin/6 hours batt life) that ends up being either $739 or $939 after the trade-in rebate.
ALSO: - FREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS - Shipping About $20; No Tax Outside MA
I know there are other Sony VAIO Trade-In threads on Fatwallet (like the offer from UBMicro), but I didn't see any from these deals from University Computers or with the new Core 2 Duo Processor. They can get you an educational price (they're very lenient in offering the Sony Educational prices to customers even if they are not educationally affiliated) on ANY Sony VAIO by emailing them at sales@bu.edu - they're usually very competitive with their pricing. For instance, an SZ model (not listed on their website but a special order) came down to be $1039 after the Sony trade-in with a 1.83C2D/100GB/512mb/dvdrw/camera/mic/bluetooth/fingerprint. They usually get back to you within 24 hours when you email them.
I hope this helps people in the market for a new laptop.

raise3 said:thanks..I just notice that my working sony vaio worth $600! It was 4 yrs old lappy..I was just thinking to buy a new lappy..
It's suspicious....
If I found out any old laptop and trade in for $600, it's impossible, otherwise, we just buy some old sony laptops for hundered from fleabay, than we can make a lot of money on this promotion.

Like op said, there another monstersized thread about the trade-in here
You can't just make a whole lot of money on the promotion because it works like a rebate, you have to buy a new sony laptop (off of their required list) with the cheapest being the bx series. Also, it's limited to one trade-in per purchase.
edit: although ~700ish isn't bad for the sz series, but I'm wondering if they have any bx540's sitting around. Oh, and I'm still skimming their page but are you saying you can get an even lower price if you're academically affiliated?
says purchase any of their Sony VAIO computers from 10/26-06 to 3/15/07 and get free upgrade to Windows Vista operating system when it becomes available.
Further research shows upgrade is free only on limited systems, and other systems cost either $45 or $75 to upgrade. Complete details available through link below :
There is a 65 page thread discussing BX series and VAIO Trade-up's, Do you need another thread ???
Yes, and if you don't think so don't read or post in it. I get very tired of people criticizing other's that do the work to post something they believe is of value. I find old threads get stale and it is posts like this (with new info, by the way)that get me interested in something I wouldn't otherwise pay attention to.
Oh yeah, it should also be noted that the Sony VAIO BX640 discussed here comes with XP Professional. A very decent deal overall.
any laptop deals from the stores like Sears, cc, Staples, etc (where we can buy from dp for a discount price) since it make the $600 tradein price into $720 (you pay only $480 for $600 value) in fact..
