What makes you think that the chocolates you buy are made within the last 12 months?

What makes you think that the chocolates you buy are made within the last 12 months? I worked at another "high end" chocolate place that competes with Godiva. You can store chocolate in the freezer for a little over a year. Also in the fridge if you can get it around 32F. In fact I buy tons of discounted chocolate from my old job and freeze it and use it for cookies, dips etc.

From the Box (couldn't resist tapping into 1).... Store in cool place (<65d F) or store in freezer bagged in 2 zip locks. gives a 6-month storage duration
From the Godiva Website.... Often, chocolates are kept in the refrigerator which is not to be recommended. Chocolate keeps best at a temperature of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. A dry, odourless cellar or unheated room is the ideal place. If possible, keep the chocolates in their original packaging (ballotin, box, etc.), or in a hermetically sealed or metallic box. And avoid storing them next to food with strong odours. Chocolates filled with fresh cream should always be consumed rapidly.

Right! NEVER freeze (unless your only future use is for cooking )! Store tightly sealed in cool, dry place.

What makes you think that the chocolates you buy are made within the last 12 months? Because they have sell by dates like any other food item. I've eaten out of date chocolates from a clearance bin before. Blech! Very little flavour is left.

Um, might get a better recipient reaction if you give these for Valentine's and don't hold them until Christmas. Tried that once with chocolate cherries. The insides fossilized.
Chocolate stored at the wrong temperature will "bloom," giving it that greyish/whitish appearance. It may be edible but it isn't pretty. I would never give year old chocolate to anybody.
I wish I'd known this - I was near a Godiva store yesterday, but didn't stop in.
Oh well. I still have Sees in my cabinet.

I was in Macy's (Chicago) on Sunday. No deal on Godiva.
BUT all the Frango gift packages/baskets were 70% off and the Old Orchard store (Highway 41 and old orchard rd) had TONS available w/ original prices of $90-125.

So when I receive the items, they will be okay? "cause they ship it with more work.
I used to buy Godiva for my wife for special occassions; but shipped they are very expensive and I have found the off-the-shelf boxes in Barnes and Noble to be clearly inferior; at least to my taste stale is too strong but clearly they were not fresh. I would be hesitant to pay those kind of prices for last year's chocolate.
godiva - cost is much more in retail stores, and their stock is limited. idiots answer the phone.
this is more than 2 times what See's costs. it's supposed to be much richer. who needs more calories?
See's is just fine and you can get it for $9 a pound at Costco. Costco sells 2 one pound gift certificates for $18, that way whoever you give it to can pick out each individual chocolate themselves. it even comes with gift packaging.
ok, for those with expensive taste, it's a great deal.
