This year State Farm is again offering Intuit Turbo Tax Free for their customers. You must use StateFarm.com. Login to your account and the link is on the left hand side of the "My Account" page.

This year no company is "giving away" their software so this is a HOT DEAL.
Edit by Moderator: Thank you for participating in the forums. However, this topic has been covered in a recent post Here.

You might also want to mention they are also giving away a free year of McAfee Virus Scan.

Only if you're a State farm member, in which case so is Comcast giving away McAfee Virus Scan...if you're a member.

Upon login, the download link was there for me for the VirusScan, so I would have presumed most people would have understood that like the Turbo Tax deal, which is not yet actually active, this one also applies to existing customers.

Yes, but only upon log in. The folks reading this post have yet to log in, ergo they cannot know that this is for existing customers until they do try to log in.

You might want to change the link to state coming soon. When I logon hit free tax software it says State Farm is teaming up with Inuit to offer free tax filing software. Please check back after the first of the year to download.

Nice... I knew that $25 a year membership fee would finally get me something useful.

AAA charges me $50 per year...I am not getting anything useful.

Does anyone know if I can start on inutit.com then use that same return when the link on statefarm.com becomes active?

I logged in to my account and do not see the offer. What I do see after logging in is what appears to be a home page similar to Google, etc..

There is a link on their home page also.

That was the case yesterday. Today, after you log in, on the left side under "Additional Links" there's a link for free tax filing. If you click it, however, you'll see that it's not yet running. Also, in order to use it, you have to have a State Farm policy or account viewable online.

???

I was able to download a copy of TaxCut Basic from their web site for free. This link was posted by someone else in a thread last month (maybe the one about the free shredder?)

I downloaded my own copy, as did my father. The State Farm deal may be better for its customers as it includes a state version, but there still is a totally-free deal available to everyone.

Note that the State Farm offer also includes free Fed and State e-file.

Is this TurboTax for the packaged software or just being able to use some online version?

Download? Heck, they mailed a full TaxCut Basic package to me. I'm still trying to figure out why

budster said: Is this TurboTax for the packaged software or just being able to use some online version? It's the TurboTax on-line version (Basic or Deluxe); they also offer Premier for a reduced(?) fee.

You can import last year's TurboTax file to use with the online version. You can also save the current year's file to continue with a PC based version or to import next year. I don't think that you can import a current year TT file (from the PC version) and continue with the online version (i.e. to get the free e-file).

Is turbotax still using the annoying and invasive activation?

I remember that. Not for a couple/few years now. I gave them an ear full with that one when they did that.

Appears to be the on-line version according to the quote on their site.

so if my friend is a statefarm customer, can I use his? i.e., is there any cross-verification between the state-farm info and turbotax entered info?

Anybody know what happened to this? Suddenly it disappeared.

I don't see it either! DOA???

hadji said: I don't see it either! DOA???It's up. You have to log into your SF account, then click on FREE tax filing under Additional Links.

You can download fully functioning Basic version of TaxAct program from their site (TaxAct.com) or use it online.
It requres a registration on their site (free and quick), and the Basic (free) version has nagging pop-ups advertising their Deluxe package. However, this is a very capable, completely operational program, which even offers free e-File (Federal).

I've used this product for several years now, and am fully satisfied with it.

then click on FREE tax filing under Additional Links

I don't see it under additional links. Do you mind posting the actual link (unless the link is individualized)?

Right click on link and "copy shortcut", or for firefox, right click and "copy link location".

Yeah, it's not up for me either in IN.

Not there for me either. I downloaded the Family Matters Planner while I was there. I think that's a good idea that we should have done a long time ago.

Did you log into your State Farm account?

NoMoneyInMyWallet said: Did you log into your State Farm account?

Yes.

doesn't show for me either - i get the link to download family matters and to create a medical ID card.
NO FREE TAX FOR YOU - 1 YEAR!

I am pretty sure you have to have an ACTIVE account that you must manually enter before the tax link shows up. So if you are a State Farm auto insurance customer, set up your auto account (you have to enter the account number and wait for a period of time before it's processed).

I have had an active account for 2 years now, as I have taken part in the deal twice now. Still no link.

Worked for me.
I did this last year.

I logged into State Farm website and
then under Additional Links
clicked on "FREE tax filing"

I wonder if it is state specific? Clients in certain states eligible while others are not.

I figured out how to fix the problem of not seeing the link. You must set up your insurance account to be viewed on the website. I believe it says "set up insurance account to view and pay bill". It takes about 2 hours for it take effect, but afterwards you will see the link to Turbotax.

Thank you SO much for figuring that out. It was driving me nuts.

I'm in NY. Shows for me under additional links. Did it last year too. Free Dlx and Fed and state efile.

Wow!

I am truly amazed that many fellow fw'ers (and several VERY senior members) use state farm. Unless there is some unusual circumstance, surely USAA or Liberty Mutual offer much better rates for similar coverage while still providing reputable service.

Skipping 33 Messages...

i asked this in the other thread but this one seems to get more focus....

anyway, can you use the free turbo tax from state farm more then once? I am finishing up mine but few others want to get in too under the same link
