Staples has Canon XT kit for $699 - $50 (instant rebate) - $100 MIR starting Sunday. Use 12% FF discount (Jan 21st to Jan 23). So the final price should be
XT is not applicable for the rebates - but because this is the body-only from Staples, you could use the double rebates for a pair of lenses.

Isn't this a KIT with a 18-55 lens?

Can the 20 off 100 be combined with this and can we also add some ink coupons? that could bring the cost to $442 = $699 -$50 - $78 ($649*12%) - $20(20 off 100) - $9 (for ink) - $100 MIR = $442 + tax. Thanks Dan

$20/$100 is YMMV when combined with the 12% coupon.
Is there any Staples in USA which are still carrying this model?

Right, this is what I am wondering about. This week's ad confused me. You even cann't find this model in www.Staples.com! Maybe local store has few left. How could they put a discontinued item in their weekly ad?

Right below the item in the ad..
<font color=white style="background-color: #3E3E3E;">This product may not be available in stores, but can be ordered for delivery. While supplies last.
Some stores still have it, though it's considered a clearance product. (It never sold well since the clearance price wasn't that great) (I got one for under $500 1/2+ ago from Dell, no lens though)
I thought 8MP-generation is a bit old, and we need 12-16MP in order to get 18x24" posters. In other words, this one doesn't seem to have significant advantages over a bunch of 8-10 MP point-and-shoot camaras already on the market at a much cheaper price.
Yes I know that its an SLR, but paying $500 without having the ability to get 18x24" poster is kind of useless to me.

more MP doesnt mean better image quality. this MP war has to stop.
i dont believe people print 18X24" prints all the time, but if that is your priority, please go with higher MP cameras.

it's a great camera at a great price. How often does anybody print 18x24 posters anyway? Higher megapixels to me only means more noise until the sensor sizes start getting larger. I'm perfectly happy with my original digital rebel at 6mp really. Look at something like the nikon coolpix 4500 - a 4mp camera that is what like 6 years old - it regularly sells for well over 200 on eBay still - because it's a great camera.

Obviously this guy has no idea what he's talking about... saying a dSLR has no significant advantages over a 8-10MP P&S camera. If you want size, convenience and ease-of-use go with a P&S. Otherwise, for picture quality, dSLRs win hands down. The 8-10MP P&S use such small sensors that you get noise everywhere in the picture.

The XT really is a good camera. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, open box. I have been very happy with it. The lens that comes with it is not that great, but will get you started. Check out some of the many camera forums if you need more info on lenses, accs. Also, it takes Compact Flash cards, which are pretty cheap now.

Some people just shouldn't comment on things they don't know about.
Everything about this quote is wrong.

Staples has silver body only. It'd be hotter if there were the black body available.

Isn't that a kit? The red label on the flyer said "including 18-55 lens".

I have the Rebel XT now. It's wonderful. And I have made two 20x30" posters of pictures with my original Rebel and they look just fine. I don't know what this craze for more megapixels is. I would prefer better noise control and dynamic range to having more megapixels...

My friends who use P&S all commented on how fast my camera was. That's one of the advantages of dSLR (XT). You are also able to have more manual features.

Friend and Family discount (I think it is the same as customer appreciation days discount), it is in the email they send you.
The custom appreciation day discount link is: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?start=0&catid=18&threadid=695075
