Got in on deal. It seems they are targeting Verizon's Fios Areas. Getting ready for competition. There will be more as Verizon rolls out. |

A scan of the post card isn't going to work because they are going to want to verify that the postcard was sent to you from Comcast and has you name and address on it. When you local office notices the Comcast return address on the post card they will immediately know what division of Comcast sent out the mailer and that you aren't in that division and won't get the offer. Sit tight and wait, this offer will probably be offered by other divisions in time and you will be able to get it. For now you are doing more harm then good because when you call in and give them your info they are noting your account that you are trying to get an invalid offer for your area. |

Like I said yesterday just because you call in doesn't mean you are going to get it! When the order goes to be input to your account the rate codes will be invalid for your area. Every division for Comcast used their own rate codes that are system specific. The rate codes for the East Division won't work in any other division. Sorry! |

The Flyer was posted on SD. Signed up without a problem in NY and a friend did the same in NJ. As mentioned elsewhere, you should have basic analog cable service without a box to be eligible. |

OK, i live in the Philly area, but didn't get the postcard. What's going to happen if they want to verify I received a postcard? I received a different offer last week (digital cable for $10/month for 12 months, converter box rental extra). This deal is better but I don't want them to make a negative notation on my account. |

Actually does anybody here know what they are really getting and or why Comcast has such a great deal?? If you live in the specified area of the East Coast, here is what you will get: Comcast Digital Starter Package which is nothing more than their cheapest new motorola dct700 converter which gives you a program guide and access to on demand, digital music channels and a universal remote. This digital box resembles a motorola cable modem. You DO NOT get any of the digital programming on channels over 100, these are part of the Digital Classic and Digital Plus packages but you will get the Free premium Channel. The only reason Comcast is offering this deal is because the FCC is forcing Cable Companies not to offer proprietary cable boxes as of July 2007. This means that after that date every cable company will have to issue a box that has to be used in conjunction with a cable card to access cable service. This means that Comcast has to dump all of these motorola boxes that they have in stock and quickly since they won't be allowed to deploy them as of July. For instance in PA the difference between basic/standard service and digital starter is $1.00! So you are saving $1.00 for a year. If you like a premium channel then it works for you but just to clarify for the people who keep thinking they are getting such a great deal and keep calling in to get the special and who want to scan the post cards to try and get their local office to honor it, your putting alot more effort into this than it's really worth. It's marketing at it's best! Let's make consumers think they are getting a great deal but it's really only helping Comcast clear out these boxes since they will have to eat the cost of them after July 2007. |

Call 1-800-COMCAST they have the offers that are applicable in your area and will be able to give you anything that you may have gotten in the mail without a problem. This offer is for digital starter only so if you want that you could call 1-888-367-2830 and since you live in PA where the offer is valid it won't be a problem for you. |

2 Questions that have been asked without answer yet...
1) What exact channel lineup are you getting with this? Is it the same basic ~18 channels as the normal cheap package, or is it the full ~80 channel analog lineup in digital form. It already has been mentioned that the originally digital channels (over 100) dont apply, but no mention on what equivilant analog lineup you are getting. I'm currently paying $50+ for the full analog lineup (no digital, no box, no premiums), so this would be a deal if it is the same channels, but I dont want to jump down to the ~15 channels of the most basic tier.
2) Anyone found a way to finagle HD into the deal? Like maybe that price + $5 box rental + $5 HD or something? I get the HD network stations + TNT HD off my tv's tuner, but I wouldn't mind spending a bit more to get inhd, discHD, etc
And 1 question that is probably beyond any real answer here, but I'll ask anyways....
Do they put traps/filters on the line where only the provided box will recieve programming?
I had the most basic $10/mo package years ago for locals while I had Dish Network. I guess I was kinda lucky to get away with both, but still couldnt do what I had hoped with it cause that basic package was via converter box and the cable had some kind of trap/filter that would only allow tv through that box and nothing with cable hooked directly to a tv. I had intended on 1 sat reciever for the living room tv, as well as that basic cable package for locals on that tv as well as exclusively for the bedroom tv's. Didnt work that way though. I dont want to get stuck in that same boat here. I'd like to get that cheap package with 1 converter for the living room (+ the HD if that could somehow be worked in, otherwise cable split to the tv's tuner for the HD network stations as is how I currently view them), but still have the full analog lineup going straight into the SD tube in the bedroom as well as my computer's tuner card.
And before more of the same comments appear, I AM in an eligible area. |

Here is what you get with this offer: Comcast Digital Starter Package which is nothing more than their cheapest new motorola dct700 converter which gives you a program guide and access to on demand, digital music channels and a universal remote and the premium ch's free for 6 months. You DO NOT get any more ch's than you are currently getting with basic/standard analog service except for the premiums. You still have to pay for the basic/standard service that you already have. |
