I just received this in the mail:

We are pleased to inform you of an important service upgrade that will deliver more channel programming options to you at no additional cost. As a special benefit only available to current analog basic customers, we're going to provide you a Digital Self-Install kit which includes your digital box FREE for one year! Plus, act now and get HBO and Starz Free for six months.

Call 1-888-367-2830 and ask for code "ST" to take advantage of any of these options.

I was paying $15 for basic cable, now I'm paying $19.95 for Digital Cable with HBO and Starz because I needed two cable boxes for my two TV's. Of course it upgrades to a higher price after the one year but then I can re-evaluate what I want to do.

Comcast has these come-on deals for premium service all the time. But BUYER BEWARE. Cancelling your service with Comcast, or downgrading your account, is a nightmare. It took more than six months to cancel service; they were billing me the whole time and starting to send collection notices -- even though I called, sent letters, you name it. They kept billing me for two more months *after* they discontinued service to my house, and it took another two months for them to set things right with their collection agency. I am not the only person I know to have had problems like these with Comcast, and I have several friends who have signed up for these upgrade offers only to discover that when they call to cancel, they just keep getting billed. Buyer beware; this is one deal that is not as good as it seems.

This could be smoking hot if it works in other areas. It is easy to cancel services with Comcast in my area.

I'm paying $19.95 per month + taxes for 1 year. I get free HBO and Starz for six months. I was paying $15/month for basic cable, only about 18 channels. The additional $4.95 is for a second cable box.

COMCAST HAS A DATABASE OF OFFERS AND EACH LOCAL MARKET KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE OFFERING AND IF THEY ARE ASKING FOR A COPY OF THE MAILER *BEWARE* THEY ARE SETTING YOU UP FOR FRAUD!
