These were introduced at the comsumer level in 2000-2001 for $1000.00. It was said at that time one couldn't tell the difference between the output of this printer and professional photo film processing. It's closest competitors at that time were in the thousands. It does 8x10 (or close to it) and that is key here. This is a closeout, but just the MPLS/STP area has 4 in Blane, 2 in Eagen, and 2 in Forest Lake. I am not sure about the rest of the country. Fast forward to today, and I don't think one can get a dye sub printer that does 8x10 less than 10X this price. I am not talking about the small ones here, or 4x6 ones. I guess this technology hasn't changed much. Consumables are expensive, it takes it's own special paper, but check Office Max for those at close out also. Ribbon UPC 050332142459. Olympus has discontinued production, but one of their techs told me they still will service them. Why this old tech printer and not an inkjet? Google is your friend!

Hi there. Do you know the UPC for the printer? I'd like to call OM and ask about availability in my area. I was just looking on eBay for this printer so if I find any in store it would be great.
Good find OP.

You can easily get a dye sub printer that does 8x10 (and even 8x12) for just a bit more.
The Kodak 1400 dye sub printer, which is comparable, is currently selling for about $250 after a $100 manufacturer rebate. Kodak is also offering a buy-two-get-one rebate on the paper/ribbon packs. With this second rebate, media for 150 prints will cost about $160.
Still, if you prefer the Olympus and can find one, then this is a hot deal!

UPC for the P400 Dye Sub printer is: 050332131743 - $149.00 UPC for 25 sheets of paper for it is: 050332131880 - $14.00 UPC for the ink ribbon is: 050332142459 - $29.00
So this deal ends up to be $1.14 a print, not counting the printer of coarse.
I didn't see the Kodak 1400, and that looks like a hot deal also. I have no idea how they would compare in terms of quality of manufacture or print. Looks like the print cost would be close to the same. Even if the Oly P-400 can be located, and is cheaper, there is an advantage to the Kodak in that it is more likely they would continue to manufacture the media for a longer time than the Olympus. If they stop producing the ink ribbons the printer would be useless, and the person I talked to a Olympus about this was clueless.
