You can instead of buying these, pay a few more bucks ($20) and get some ratching anvil loppers from Harbor Freight (made in Taiwan, US patented ratchet). They say cutting through 1-inch, but try that with some apple wood. Ratcheting ones are way easier than trying to push two poles against each other.
On the plus side, these are anvil pruners and not bypass pruners and the price is good.
