Just tried to get one and they are OOS.

Not a hot deal in my opinion. You're paying for upgrades that are standard on most preconfigured systems (internal wireless, anti-reflective screen, dvd burner)...

I've been watching this thread, which is BIG OL' GREEN, but the general consensus seems to be that it's lukewarm at best...

<--- confused

[maybe it's the Friday Sale] <wink>
It was a pretty good deal until OD unleashed the $70 shipping charge.

OOS huh? Guess they got some response from the general public...

I agree this deal is only warm, still in for mine but probably hock it and get a better one when spring/summer deals start really rolling in.

Well, I needed a laptop as a gift for someone going off to college. While this may not have been the hottest deal on earth after the $70 shipping charge was unleashed, I still thought it was a pretty decent deal with no rebate hassles. I'm happy with my purchase and hopefully when I get the computer, I will still be happy.

Thanks

I though the printer could'nt be included with this deal? thats because it's( laptop)is from over seas and dosn't have at the end of the ups code a US on it.

With this deal you can upgrade to a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo for $50?

...please say Core 2 Duo!

I believe they wanted $198 for the core 2 duo

wow, after looking into this a little more this deal is cooling off day by day... still not bad for a dual core system but not terribly hot when you factor in wait time and shipping charge AND the fact that you can get a similarly configured system for the same price without the wait.

How can you get a T2060 system for the $470 +tax ($399+$70)? Everywhere else seems have t2060 for around $600. I would appreciate any information since I am seriously thinking to get one. Thanks.

theWalkinator said:lchan said:This is not much of a deal if you upgrade any of the configuration.

Office Depot had a very similar BTO offer on the week of 2/11. This was my configuration:
V6000T
Core Duo T2250
1GB RAM (2x512)
Vista Home Premium
80G 5500RPM SATA HD
Super Multi 8X DVD+-/R/RW w/Double Layer Support
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 w/Ports
802.11/b/g WLAN
6 Cell battery
Imprint finish + Microphone + QuickPlay
No TV tuner
Microsoft Works 8.0

On 2/11, the price was about $585 + $50 shipping = $635 before tax

I did that again yesterday with the same configuration and the price was about $588 + $69 shipping = $657

So the price is actually higher than before.

Also, on 2/18-24 Office Depot also has a Toshiba A135-S4447 for $800 with $200 rebate = $600. The Toshiba has a very similar configuration but with two exceptions:

- It is a Centrino which means it has Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. To add this to the Compaq will raise the price more than $38
- It has more software installed.

Also, the Toshiba is not a build to order model. It has good review compare to a BTO model that we know nothing about.

I had mine configured pretty much the same as yours less 1GB and Vista Home Basic, plus TrueBright at total of $568.99 before tax, but I canceled the order this morning since I saw a Toshiba A135-S4447 (T2250 CPU, 80GB HD, 1GB Memory, Vista Home Premium, 14.5" wide screen, CD/DVD burner) in store for $699 after $150 rebate, so I got that one since if I opted for 1GB ($50) and Vista Home Premium ($35), DVD Burner ($25), then we are talking about total cost at $677 which doesn't seem hot. Now I am also thinking to return this Toshiba lappy too since it was $100 less last week at OD and I should be able to get a similar configured lappy for about $600 in next few weeks.

I was speaking of the upgraded version as this is what I would do. So, the base version is probably cheaper than most places but the T2060 has proven it has issues running vista smoothly even after slimming vista down and tweaking the crap out of it.

Do a search for T2060. The last T2060 deal has a slew of members returning their laptops b/c a bunch of them had major issues - mainly with Aero engaged the T2060 just wasn't enough muscle to run the OS without hiccups.

Still a good deal I guess for those who just need something basic and don't care to run Vista with all the eye candy... I'm gonna wait though.

Hey, anyone configured this with the Core 2 Duo upgrade? If so what numbers did you get with vista premium, dvd burner, and 1gb?

Nope, $50 and $30 rebates are for US items, the printer one specifically lists v6000t as one of the options.

I thought the video card in this baby didn't support Aero anyway?

There are different levels of Aero. When most people think about Aero, they are talking about Aero Glass which needs a decent GPU. But the other levels, not so much. The 950 in this thing is more than enough to run the more basic levels of Aero. My old 700m ran Aero just fine. I find it hard to imagine that a T2060 would have a problem running Aero unless these guys tried to crank up the setting.

but this computer is coming from another region!, are you saying anyone who buys a v6000t can get the printer also , if so is it to late for me to get in on this?
