any coupons to offset some of the shipping costs?
You won't miss it. They make as many CTOs as are ordered. You wouldn't even need to go in tomorrow.
Wrong...they don't do that. They run out quick so you should try to buy it ASAP (like, on Sunday) because the last deal sold out in 1-2 days because they said they were out of stock nationwide. |

my current HP laptop is AMD X2 Dual Core, 1gb Ram, 8x dvd burner, 120gb HDD, Vista Premium, 15.4" bright view. I am not in the market for a new laptop but my wife is if the price is right. She said we should have bought 2 of mine when it was on sale for $600. My wifes Toshiba (which was previously mine) is solo core, 80 gb HDD, 512mb ram base I put 1gb in there after purchase, dvd burner, 15.4" brightview, XP MCE. My wife wants a new laptop one like mine, so if I were to get this Compaq for her w/ the upgrades it would be more comparable to mine. I suppose I could get the base ram and pop in a 1gb chip myself for a total of 1.5gb. We would definately want the dvd burner as she often copies stuff from her coworkers while at work. I've had to free up space on her Toshibas 80 gb and transfer some of her stored files to an external USB hard drive so I think she would find the base 60gb of the compaq not to be enough. She encodes movies and stuff so I want to get her a slightly faster processor so it finishes faster. Plus at home sometimes we have our desktops and laptops all on at the same time writing dvd's.
Since her current laptop still works but she just wants a newer one I might just wait until July 4th or the next big 3 day weekend with large sales and see what sales they have. If there is something on sale I might just give her mine and get a new one for myself. Anyway if the base specs suit your needs ~$500 shipped and taxed is a good deal. It just doesn't suit our needs.
uzibear said:BlkBimM3r said:last time I ordered a Customize to order laptop from OD shipping was about $40. The base config of $399 is a bit underconfigured for me, so if I were to take all the upgrade options (1gb ram, 80gb HDD, processor upgrade, DVD burner, and Vista Premium) thats almost $200 more w/ shipping and CA sales tax it would be almost $700. Does it come w/ BrightView? Not a bad deal after the upgrades.
i'd say it's a lousy idea; do you need any of those upgrades? i think you're being pretty silly just slamming all the upgrades on |

Sounds like you are a DVD burning factory. |

I found this helpful:
http://www.shopping.HP.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do#PROCESSOR
or at least interesting.
Oh, sh** I am sorry.
FW is great but they don't like us to post links, I guess. That one sure does not work.
Go to the HP website and look up v6000t. Then click on "customize".
There's a lot of good stuff about this lappy.

The last deal...
I actually linked to that other thread, and gave my quick thoughts on this notebook (along with info about shipping time and costs) earlier in this thread. I guess my post got skipped over by most people because of all of springboards' [now deleted] posts and the subsequent responses.
Here are the quick points for those of you who are too lazy to go back to page 3 and read my previous post:
Shipping was $50. Stores don't carry the item in stock, you must have it shipped. Laptops were shipped via FedEx from China People didn't receive laptops until about 2 weeks after order was placed. The last deal started February 11th. People reported being told, on the 12th, that the laptop was "sold out"... |

So what was the verdict on the Pentium M vs Core Duo... $50 isn't much money, but then again 1MB of L2 cache isn't huge either...
Seems I read a lot of review showing some signficant performance over Pentium D vs CoreDuo but maybe they were referring to desktops... and it seems these chips are being read as CoreDuos also... |

The "Mobile Intel 945 Express chipset family" graphics is the deal killer for me.
Green for a decent deal for a cheap laptop. |

Intel's chipset owns 70+% of the laptop market. That's why AMD brought ATI to get into the chipset business. Your choice for chipset is very limited.
With this laptop, at least you have the choice to upgrade to INclude) IntelGraphics Media Accelerator 950 - Celeron Included in price IntelGraphics Media Accelerator 950 - Core for $16 +$16.00 Or 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 for $70

Go for the upgrade man...get the true Core Duo. You'll be glad you did it. |

puppyfriend said:Devedander said:Might be a silly question, but can you just drop a Core2Duo in here? ie is the right socket and will the BIOS support it?
I don't see why not. This Compaq and the HP DV series are all basically the same machines. People have upped their DVs with a Core 2 Duo. They all say it's not worth it though since it's a hassle to get to the CPU and the speed increase is marginal. But if you need 64 bits, it's an option. But chances are you can order it with the Core 2 Duo upgrade so why not do that. It'll be cheaper than buying one aftermarket, installing it and then selling the Core Duo. I think it costs $125 to up it to a Core 2 Duo.
Yah, but you could do the CPU upgrade in 1-2 years with a used system pull Core2Duo for probably 35 bucks. Knowing that you have a relatively easy upgrade path is worth considering on a PC. Even a laptop. That is what I would do... |

Green for a decent deal for a cheap laptop. I don't think you can get the nvidia geforce go 7400 in this laptop. On the HP website, they only let u go up to the intelgraphics. Unless OD let u add it when you configure it or something, I never order a laptop from OD before, I'll prolly order this one for the wife. |

I agree it's worth it to move from non CoreDuo to CoreDuo but according to the screenshot earlier, the non coreduo one really is a coreduo with half L2 Cache... |

Thank you for the deal. Wondering if people can comment on what I should do in terms of upgrade/no upgrade if the most I would stress the CPU would be to play games like World of Warcraft - besides that most of the use will be for watching some movies and surfing/editing papers...
Thanks for the input. |
