I was on MyPoints.com today, looking for easy ways to rack up the last 100 points needed to redeem a gift card, when I noticed the $25 prepaid Mastercard offer for signing up with Obopay.
I did a search to make sure I wasn't duplicating any previously posted deals, and only found the $5 and $25 if you sign up through Amp'd. Since this is through MyPoints, I think it deserves a new post of its own.
Signing up for MyPoints is pretty easy, though it asks for your address, phone, etc. Just attach something like "Suite M" to your address so you can weed out any junk mail they send your way, and use Grand Central for phone. Once you're set up, click the "easy points" tab at the top of the screen and then look for the "trial offers" section. If you don't see the Obopay offer, click "more".
I did a search on Obopay and found they've got a deal with Citi, so it looks like they're legit. They do ask for your SSN and address to verify you exist, but they promise they're not doing credit checks.
Anyway, it took a couple minutes and I got an acceptance email right away. I thought it was a pretty painless way to get $25 as well as 100 points.
BTW, anyone notice MyPoints has stopped sending BonusMails after the first of the year?

so what happens after the "trial"? If it's just the "trial" or the SSN then I may consider jumping onto it, but it's both of them, I consider this some kind of headache for me.

I'm not really sure why MyPoints listed it as a "trial offer"...as far as I can tell, you're doing a straight signup/registration and you don't get any benefits other than the $25 that you don't get after a certain point.
As for the guy who mentioned his experience with coupon.com, I'd just like to point out this thread is about signing up Obopay through MyPoints.com. I'm positive coupon.com is not involved in any way with this deal, but I feel I should give you a hug for apparently being scammed by them.
As for the BonusMail thing...I confirmed my preferences were in order, then I check my blocked list for my email account...I just remembered I had gotten so many BonusMails over the holidays I got fed up and blocked them!

This very same thing happened to my wife and she told me that she once accidentally pressed report spam button on her yahoo mail account, instead of delete while reading one of the messages. She created a new account and changed her mypoints email address to this new one. The same might have happened to you.
So Obopay only cost you money if you use it? I signup, get the $25 MC and if I don't ever send money I pay nothing. Am I understanding it correctly?
Although, it sounds like a economical way to send and receive money. I might end up using it.
thanks OP

BTW, when you sign up, here's the info they give on the next page in regards to the $25.
"Activate your new Obopay Prepaid MasterCard ® card. In 5-10 business days you should receive your free Obopay Prepaid MasterCard® card (please note, it will arrive in a plain envelope so keep an eye out for it). The free Obopay PrePaid MasterCard® gives you instant access to the money in your Obopay account and can be used anywhere MasterCard® is accepted, including at ATMs. When you get your card don't forget to call and activate it. Once your card is activated, check your balance from your mobile phone or on the website to see your $25.00 sign up bonus from Obopay."

i'm stil getting my bonus points e-mails.... thanks for the 25$$ info... and 100 points
my 2 cents: Anyone should think before giving SSN for $25. These are the days of Identity theft. I would not give my SSN except where absolutely needed.
I am a mypoints member for long. I only take the 5 points clicks and nothing more!

I can understand your reluctance because of the SSN. However, I look at this deal the same way I would at a $$$ deal for opening a bank account and, considering the $25 p-p'ed Mastercard is mailed to you so fast, it's a no-brainer for me. I googled this company and they certainly strike me as legit; if Citicorp is willing to go into business with them I figure they're satisfied they are as well. I don't remember if I had to sign up with my SSN when I opened my Paypal account, but if they're not now I'd be surprised. Maybe they can get away with it because they make you link it to a credit card and/or bank account so they can claim compliance that way.
I'm not planning to use Obopay or push their software onto my cell phone (not required). Once I get the card and activate it, I'm gonna use it and, assuming I can't find any non-usage fees or whatnot, shred it and forget it. If they want to count me as one of their "faithful clients" in exchange for a quick $25, they're more than welcome.
If you read the other threads on Obopay here, people have reported various ways to double and triple dip but I'm not planning to do that because I doubt that'd fly with the MyPoints/$25 thing. I just think it's a pretty good deal that you're getting $25 instead of the $5 the general public gets (plus MP points, if you care about that).
Finally, it's a lot easier to sign up with MyPoints than Amp'd.
Great Deal! Got my card a few weeks ago. Thanks for the direct link, I just signed up. Their service actually seems useful, the FAQ doesn't mention any limits on the amounts or restrictions, could be a good alternative to paypal if not using CC.
Can you sign up on Obopay using a land line phone number? Don't have (or want) a cell phone.

I just signed up a second phone number through the direct link and received verification the signup bonus for that one is also $25. Apparently, you can sign up 3 cell phones. Neat.
I just tried to sign up and now they want me to fax them a copy of my DRIVERS LICENSE! Shouldn't my SS # be enough? Sounding kind of fishy. Anyone else get this request? They probably couldn't link your SS# to the name and address you gave them. I'm glad they're doing this; they'd be irresponsible to set up accounts without making sure the SS # is actually yours, right?
Are you in college? If you give them your college address, their database may not have it linked to you yet. Try giving your home address and have your parents mail you the card when it comes!

I'm assuming you were assigned your SS # before you were married? If the name you gave in your application doesn't match the name on your SS, they need to clear up the discrepancy.
Unlike what I thought, they do have limits. Is there a maximum amount I can send or spend? You can send or spend only as much as you have in your Obopay account up to $200 per day. It's very easy to check your balance from your phone before you send money. If you've already downloaded Obopay to your mobile phone, just choose the 'Balance' option. Or you can go to wap.obopay.com to check your balance. Also, you can withdraw up to $200 per day from ATMs using your PrePaid MasterCard ® and make bank transfers up to $200 per day. And no worries if you try to send more than you have - we just won't send the payment. No ugly penalties or bounced check fees. Cool, eh?
Also, they mention the possibility of transfering money back to bank a/c for free, but I don't find an option after logging in. You can withdraw money out using ATMs but it will be hard to find one that will not charge you a fee, unless obopay has some special affiliation with any operators (which they don't seem to).

Thanks to everyone here for showing the way. I just signed up with the direct link and referred myself twice, three different emails in all.
In no case did I use a cell# but rather numbers from AOL, Netzero, etc.
I even used three separate browsers (which I use anyway) so as not to bother with cookies and be able to login to each at any time.
As mentioned above, be careful not to use the referral link when signing up accounts 2 and 3--use the original, direct, $25 link.
If done correctly, in the end you should be able to cash out #1 for $34.90 and each of the other accounts for $24.90.
What nice guys that they send a check instead of making us deal with pre-paid cards and their assorted fees and complications.
While I'd rather spend an hour filling out rebate paperwork and waiting several months to make $84.70, doing it in 15 minutes is nice, too

Sorry, I thought that info was in this thread as well, but it's not. I learned over in the SD thread that you can use the same SSN three times (i.e. the original one and two referrals). I have no idea why. Be sure to vary the phone number and email (and deal with cookies, possibly), but the rest can be the same (the logins differ too, of course).

Do you not see "Once you're done, we will send you an Obopay Prepaid MasterCard® preloaded with $25.00 for your convenience" on the page (direct link), or are you saying that you do but you only get $5 afterwards?
I don't know about now, but it was working as of about 3 hours ago.
Signed up via the MyPoints $25 link. However, the confirmation email says the plastic card will only be "loaded" with $5, not $25. I saved screen shots of the $25 offer, and intend to request a correction, if they do: only put $5 on the account. That is: after receipt of the plastic card and activation.
