I've been waiting for it to comeback. In for 2. I think the deal in Febuary was for $109.

Hi,
I was also waiting a long time for the $99 price with free shipping, but I decided to finally jump on the Staples deal for the Maxtor 320gb for $70.34 taxes included. I believe Outpost.com charges tax in California, therefore the total price would have been $108.25 taxes included.

What's the current track record? There are some dismaying reviews on Amazon here. Seems like the drives are either great or bricks - heck of a gamble. Otherwise the price is good

I'm yet to have trouble with a seagate drive. Can't say the same for WD or Maxtor. For the past 6 years, nothing but smooth seagates here.

Supposedly there's opinions that revision numbers are inportant as to what type of drive is inside-- I think it was .10's are perpendicular write technology, less isn't. And perp-write is good I've read. No problems here yet either way- and my drives are in USB cases traveling a 5 days a week.

I'm no expert, but Seagate is the only one I'll touch after losing a WD during a power uspply failure in November, and a Maxtor out of the blue in September.

Also, just checked those reviews-- out of thousands of drives sold, only one person complaining about a dead drive is a non issue in my book. Also, the one complaining about the service is no biggie for me either. Matter of fact, I'm surprised there are 2 positive reviews- you rarely hear people take the time to say or do good-- just the bad. For my money, these are the best HD deal in a while.

Point being, I'm pretty sure I can find someone that can say something bad about dang near everything, down to my girlfriend if I tried. It's those who don't say anything who say the most sometimes.

Murph

I'm primarily using Seagate drives only and I've already had 2 completely die. I was using Partition Magic to copy over a drive to one Seagate, computer went on standby and I heard a horrible screeching sound for a few seconds. Could never load anything off the drive again. Other one got back from RMA, SATA2 7200.10, during heavy bandwidth w/ reading off multiple locations on the drive would disappear randomly, only reappearing after restart. One time never came back after disappearing. Anyways I'm still using Seagate since all hard drives die and they have the best warranty, plus I'm fairly decent with backing up.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read here at FW. There are only 2 positive reviews but you consider that a good thing. That's pretty funny. You could rationalize anything that way! You're saying nobody should pay any attention to negative reviews about anything, ever. Spoken like a true salesman.

By your logic Maxtor and WD are great because you're complaining about them and all the people who love them can't be bothered to report their good experiences. Convoluted doesn't begin to describe your logic.

Any Active Storage Tour rebates to make this sweeter? I can't believe these things are still so expensive. The way drive prices were dropping six months ago, these should be going for $60-$70 by now.

Cranky Member seems to fit here. I simply related my own experiences after someone asked about the +/- nature of the reviews on Amazon. You're trying to twist it to imply there should be more positive reviews. I think most 'rational' people realize that more than 4 drives have been sold, and more than 50% (two of the four reviews in this case) of consumers are apparently satisfied with their purchases. 'Convoluted logic' being that bad news travels fast, and if the product were crap, you'd hear from a lot more than 2 people that it stunk.

I didn't say ignore the negative reviews, I said there weren't enough negative reviews to simply crap on the product. WD and Maxtor have no place in my world FROM EXPERIENCE-- not based on reviews on a store's website. That's called personal preference, not salemanship.

Bottom line, if you don't like the deal, don't buy it. It's not a debate, it was simply sharing an opinion that was asked for.

Waiting on some sweet 4-500GB SATA deals, myself. Can't wait till those 1TB drives hit and start driving these HDD prices down, they're still too damn high.

This item is now listed as "Call for Availability". I ordered one on Sunday and my order is listed as "Order Being Processed".

Has anyone who placed an order for one of these had their order shipped yet?

The product is no longer available from Outpost. The link in the original post works and reports that "Product currently unavailable".

Dang

Impatient much? "Order Being Processed" here as well, at the moment.

My order was placed around noon on Saturday and still shows as IN PROCESSING too.

Placed mine just after I posted it here, and it arrived already today. From Friday evening to Monday afternoon-- now that's fast shipping-- especially for free!

For some reaosn, Ohio sounds familiar enough that I think I knew that, just didn't click-- so it was Ohio to St. Louis for me in less than one business day.

Just opened mine up to install, they are bouth the 7200.10's which are supposed to be better.

Here's a link to the differences.. Link

It's available again, someone who missed it, time to get one now.

Op's link doesn't work, so here it is:

Oops, just realized it's different product, this one is SATA, so I'll open a new thread then.

Looks like the PATA and SATA traded places SATA is in-stock and $99.99+FS. PATA is OOS.

I took to long to decide on buying it online and it sold out, but today I went to Fry's B&M and it is $99.99 again so I got one there. The price should be good until tomorrow at B&M for those still interested in getting one.

Just checked online, and it's alive again!
