Wilco has been doing this marketing strategy since they put out Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 5 years ago. You can also listen to the new unreleased Wilco album on their website and Bright Eyes is doing the same thing for their unreleased album on their web site. This soon enough will be a standard and when the album is actually realeased they will have bonus material of some sort to get people to actually buy the album. |

Can anybody please share as to how you view XML code to a flash player (which menus do you have to go through). I know that someone has already posted a link to the xml code but I am curious as to how you get XML displayed for flash. Thanks.
robinso123 said:The songs are also available all over the internet in MP3 format. Many people think that Trent intentionally left open the XML code to the flash player so people could download the songs.
FYI: The songs are at 256 MHZ |

Ugh. Horrid quality music.
How do you people enjoy 128 or worse bitrate mp3s?
I'd rather listen to NIN in cd quality. Of course I also don't listen on cheap speakers or earbuds, but on $300 speakers and Onkyo receiver. But that's just me, an audiophile, if you'd rather give me red because of my OPINION, then go right ahead.
EDIT: Even if it's 256 bitrate, no go. Cd quality is FLAC, which is 1000 bitrate. mp3 cannot even touch it. |

Lol, you're an audiophile with an onkyo receiver and $300 speakers?
My computer has a Headroom Max on it with sennheiser HD600's- and I listen to MP3's on it anyway. They sound great. FLAC is a minor improvement.
Me thinks you're just trolling.

Even flac losses some cd bits. But flac is about as close as you can get to cd.
FLac may sound slightly different to you. It really depends on the person. Each person goes at things differently. For some people, a cheap pair of earbuds is fine.
For others, they need super good equipment.
Each person was made differently. You need to accept this, otherwise, next thing you'll be gay bashing.
DOesn';t mean you need to go and judge anybody.
And btw, the $300 and onkyo is my COMPUTER equipment.
Oh, green for you OP, but personally, I wouldn't want this. But I definatly know of some people who would.
i am not sure about 128kbps, but i can bet you that at 256kbps, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between cd & mp3...i am not trying to belittle you in anyway...just saying...that at 256kbps...there is virtually no difference between mp3 or cd quality... |

I tried flac once and couldn't figure it out. It's funny that the album isn't on rapidshare anywhere, yet he's encouraging downloading from his site (which I don't know how to do).from what I've heard, sounds better than "with teeth". |

The list of tracks is here: http://yearzero.nin-thespiral.com/FLJoi4gjw2f/xml/playlist.xml
Take each track URL like http://http.vitalstreamcdn.com/sparkart2_vitalstream_com/sparkart/nyz/01Hyperpower.flv and enter it at http://www.flv2mp3.com/ after you click the url to FLV file button. Fill out the rest of the info and hit upload. You will instantly get an email with a link to the mp3 file. Right click on the link and "Save target as" to download to your computer. Remember to rename the track.
Thanks additive for the xml link
This is just one way to get the tracks into MP3 format |

As far as the album goes, its got some real gems in it, but its not as good as previous work. I'm looking forward to the remaster that he will inevitablely release on dvd in 5.1. The sound on the previous rereleases on dvd is just amazing. I think thats where he's making most of his money and why he is "giving away" the album.
I think you are correct. Those DVD's sound like the concert. very nice. |

This should work flawlessly:

Even flac losses some cd bits. But flac is about as close as you can get to cd. Obviously you can just store the uncompressed PCM. Which is exactly what the CD has. Regardless, FLAC does not "loss" any information. A basic principle of information theory is that it is possible to compress most (nonrandom) data without information loss.
FLac may sound slightly different to you. This is impossible. FLAC has the exact same output as the CD.
Incidentally, I use FLAC mainly so I can compress to whatever becomes popular in the future. There *is* a noticeable difference when you transcode. |

Why all the red for my post?
Maybe 'coz you were the first to dump a pile of BS in this thread. Your comments had nothing constructive to add to the OP. Since I'm feeling generous I'll give you some green if you shave your head and rock to "Hit me baby one more time" |
