My mommy make me cookie! probably because i'm a rookie She was always a friend, like fatwallet starting a rhyming trend
Once upon an evening weakly, while I studied tired and sleepy, Over tons of chem and bio, and chapters of confusing lore, While I struggled, nearly sleeping, suddenly there was a beating, As of some one gently peeking, peeking through my bedroom door. 'Tis some visitor' I spattered, 'peeking through my bedroom door - Only this, and nothing more.'
Ah, clearly I do remember it was in the cold of winter, And each separate math problem wrought its torment through my mind. Eagerly I hoped for morning - vainly I had sought for snoring To escape the books of working - hoping for something so kind - For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named my mom Nameless here for evermore.
And the crisp and sad rustling of each page when it be turning Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to quiet the jumping of my heart, I stood imploring ''Tis someone peeking through the entrance of my bedroom door - someone late just peeking through the entrance of the door; - This is it, and nothing more,'
Presently, my heart got stronger; slowing down not a moment longer, 'Sir,' I said, 'or Madam, your forgiveness I ask for; But the fact is I was sleeping, and so softly you came peeking, And so quiet you came looking, looking through my bedroom door, That I barely knew I heard you' - here I opened wide the door; - Mom was there and nothing more.
She had brought with her some cookies - cookies brown and dark with chocolate, She was standing there all smiling, hoping I would be not disturbed Many times she had been waiting, waiting to come in all quiet Quiet as to not disturb me and place nourishment and leave Only this and nothing more.
This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing To the mother whose kind eyes now looked into my bosom's core This and more I sat smiling with my mind all the time filing She placed the food next to my book, and presently so I did look, She turned and said a word, a word that I would cherish more, Son I love you, this I do, 'Mother you know that I do too' This we said to one another, as she headed for the door, We will love forevermore...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to this post, Mothers day is 5-13-07 and this promotion expires 5-14-07. Wouldn't it be wise to have it end before M-day so that whoever wins can 'give' their mother a gift on M'day? No ode.

when i think of my mother it brings great joy amongst others to have a mom that's always there even though she picks out what i wear
so what if i am 23 at least i dont have holes in my jeans so in closing, please give prizes to me so i can make my mom's day the best it can be!
I am quite pleased to give report: My mother is a wondrous sort! Her cooking isn't quite the thing, And --- golly-gee! --- she cannot sing. Her house has not that spotless shine; Her stylish wardrobe once was mine. As hostess, she has not great skill, But who am I to wish her ill? For, 'tis the day to celebrate All attributes that make her great! She smiles, she laughs, she listens in; For these and more: I count her Friend.

Thanks, skarydrunkguy. While we did have a reason for extending the giveaway to 5/14, we see your point and have moved the deadline for entry up to 5/7/07. -Good luck!

My mother's one of the best as she cooks me whatever I request But no this isn't the only reason why she holds the title in my heart so high
It's the assurance that I see in her eyes of a mother's love that's truly divine Knowing that she loves me for whatever I am and that she would still enjoy this poem that's as quality as inbox spam
She's the best in the world because when I tell her of my far-reaching dream of being able to live frugally, she assures me that it's not as tough as it may seem
So she proceeds to direct me to Fat wallet hot deals, to threads on kitchen equipment so perhaps I can cook my own meals But joke's on her-- I will not cook ever and afterwards I give her some credit on being clever
I am blessed with a wonderful, patient and loving mother and with that I must say she's the best in the world and a rarity amongst others!
Since you requested the ballad of my favorite words for my Mother in your forum, I felt compelled to tell you something that isn't your typical Mother's Day poem, but for me is so much more meaningful. I was operated on for a benign brain tumor almost two years ago and the best Mother's Day present we have ever shared was the kiss on my forehead my Mom gave me upon awakening from my surgery. If anything, this shows that Mother's Day Odes come in many more forms than we might realize...

I love my Mom, she's the bomb! hear what I say, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
It's the time of year to remember those lovely ladies who do so much. With arms extended and hands so tender, they always have that magic touch.
To my dear mother, my heart is full of love, devotion and gratitude. The heart of a lion with a deep soul who forgave my adolescent attitude.
(so I'm no shakespeare, Substitute smarta$$ for adolescent for the original poem I wrote!) In

I thought i had enough money for mothers day, But I spent it all on fatwallet yesterday. So I hope you like these flowers and cards Please dont kick me in the nards!
she doesn’t care that I’m a mom too now, with a family of my own -- she still smooths my hair back, and kisses me on the cheek when she thinks I'm sleeping, but I lie awake, the feel of her calloused hands against my skin lingers with me long after she's gone to the guest room, the soft movement of wooden rosary beads, quietly walking through her fingers before she falls asleep.
Those hands, every line, scar, finger or bump, is history, holding stories of a time before she became a mother at 17, before a time where she kept her nails short because she liked it that way, not because of necessity, and I don't ever remember her nails having a full coat of polish, but she always made sure mine did, and after three kids, a husband incarcerated, she somehow managed to send me to college, always sending me care packages with goodies, prayer books, and cards with confetti, and while she lives pay check to pay check -- that lady I tell you, she still got that magic I could never quite copy --
the way she manipulates those black and whites of the second-hand Samick, her fingertips casting a crescendo of spells onto the shoe-cluttered floor, through the torn, homemade curtains, past the distant beeps of video games from down the hall, and the footsteps of neighbors, coming maybe going, they all fade away as the lilting grace notes and triplets carry me away to a vintage, latte-only cafe in Andalucia where I sit at the edge of a pink rustic chair, the smell of pretzels and steamed milk blending together as a young couple slow dance to Albeniz's Tango, and I wonder if Mom sees this too, or does she see the cathedrals in Sevilla she dreams of visiting one day, or maybe she's across the ocean in Puerto Vallarta, saying a rosary in la Iglesia de Nuestra Dama de Guadalupe, but the music stops, and she's sitting at the bench in her faded house shorts and panda bear t-shirt, flipping through 101 Classical Favorites, and I have the urge to tell her that I don't think I'll ever be as strong as she is, and she can still dance, still travel, still see those old churches she's crazy about, and I'll go with her if she wants, and take pictures, lots of pictures, but instead, I can only lie there on the living room sofa and ask her to play it one more time. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO THE MOST AMAZING WOMAN I KNOW
there is no contest, my mom is the best. as for all the rest they are just second best.

Who changes the diapers, both #1 and #2? Who gets to save her toddler's life everyday? (When she tried to eat the laptop cord or eat your shoe?) Mom does! She loves her job, but there's no pay-- So how about some flowers for her, to brighten her day?
