If you want to visit free (yet good) museums and zoos, check out St. Louis. The St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, and St. Louis Art Museum are all free, all the time. Not to mention Grant's Farm, the A-B Brewery Tour.... |

But admission is only for cardholder plus one. I got 5 kids to take to the Bronx Zoo. Then again, we have the zoo right at home

Ecuadorgr said:The prices you see are RECOMMENDED admission prices. You can walk up to the counter and ask for 1 admission for $5 etc, depending on your financial status. Edit: In case it is not clear, RECOMMENDED means the admission price that is calculated to be enough to sustain the museum. Don't give less if you can affort it. A common misconception because almost all museums rely on their Board of Trustees to help underwrite their operating costs in one way or another. Without their assistance, admissions charges would be a lot higher. |

Yep, both the MET and AMNH in NYC are as free as you want them to be. I'll pay them more than a dollar once I actually earn more than $10k/year.
And it is true that all of the smithsonians in Washington are free, but it is also true that they are much less interesting and have a lower quality than the pay museums in DC, for instance the spy museum. |
