Verizon DSL $14.99 per month for 1 year 768 Kbps speed

Just saw this promo. It was $21.99 up until now. They appear to guarantee the price for one year. Also remember that Verizon now offers Dry Loop service in most areas. Meaning you can get DSL without the telephone service. Although they do change $5 a month for that. Here is the Link

If this was for 1.5 Mbps then I would switch. Comcast sucks so bad (as a company) I would be willing to take the speed cut.

I disagree - I think its an excellent price for a entry level high-speed modem. Most people don't need FIOS / cable speed.

Also, even though it was once available for $15, they required a phone line and quickly raised the price to $18 then $22

They want it, it's not a question of whether they need it or not. Most people don't need Windows ME II, either, but that doesn't stop them from going out of their way to find a good deal on it. Same goes for most deals posted here.

No deal here. As another poster said this is AT&T regular price.

It is a great deal for these who live in Verizon-only area. There is no better deal at this speed so far. The last $14.99/month from Verizon was one and half years ago. 768kbps is good enough for most internet surfing.
AT&T has a similar rate, however it is not available at all the areas.
After one year of contract, the rate is supposed to be the current rate then. However, it stays at $14.99. I am currently using this plan. It's been more than one year. I still pay $14.99/month which happens to others in my area as well.

768 isn't -that- bad. I have a 768 symmetrical for one of my servers and the speed isn't a big deal for average surfing....

The time I moved the 9GB tar file was a different story. 100k/sec seems much slower when you move 9GB.

I use the RoadRunner lowest service level at the moment which is $19.99 and if you don't buy enough of the Cable TV options they add another $5 to the bill. So I'm paying $25 for supposedly the same speed. However, with Verizon I was getting speeds of around 800 - 900 Kbps. With RoadRunner I'm lucky to hit 650Kbps. And there are No Other options available in my area, save the Dial UP . If this deal was around when I placed my order, I would have opted for Verizon instead of RoadRunner. So for me there is more than one thing that make this price hot. Although I accept it may not be for everyone. It doesn't mean this is not a hot deal it just means it is not for you.

With dryloop, I think this is an ok deal for single person regular websurfing.

well this price is almost standard for SBC yahoo..we have this price for about 2-3 years...and now no term required

What they probably meant to say is that in MOST of the United States, you don't have a choice. If you have Verizon, then you most likely don't have AT&T, Qwest, etc, and vice versa.

Exactly...as my neighbors granmamamama says...anything over dial-up is overkill.

if DRY loop is just $5 more then this is hot. With ATT, you have to pay $13 for a basic telephone line.

Uhh what the hell are you talking about. I'm in SoCal and I can get Earthlink DSL, Verizon DSL, AT&T DSL, Charter Cable, and Earthlink Cable all to my door.

Well what can I tell you chief you must be one in a million that has the option. I moved to Los Angeles in 1983 and in all the years of living here I have never had an option of picking either my phone or cable carrier. Nor have I ever heard of such a thing. If you have it consider yourself lucky or if you're just confused it's OK too. Either way this deal clearly is not for you, as I have already mentioned once.

If you do nothing, you are still charged for $14.99. The words from Verizon CSR varies. Verizon does not automatically adjust rate to the current so far in my area.

Two questions,

1) Anyone successfully re-up the contract for another year?

2) What's the lapse-of-service time required before you're considered a new customer again?

3) Any tips/method to getting the service at the $14.99 rate for another year?
