This is a different situation. If they were planning to release games on HD-DVD, I doubt we would be seeing the price drops that we're seeing. |

The HD-DVD drive has a slower read speed than the current DVD drive in the 360, therefore they will not be allowing any games to be played for it, nor release any games that will use HD-DVD. |

They've said several times they won't.
They've also insisted they would not release HDMI
MS has also stated that the HD-DVD's are decoded via software not hardware so it really wouldn't make the most sense for MS to have games on HD-DVDs when the 360 would be spending a lot of it's power on decoding (reading) the HD-DVD. Just a thought to backup their statement of HD-DVDs not being games. That and there's a small share of the 360 market having the add-on in the first place.
Decoding and reading are not the same thing. Reading data from a drive is not very CPU intensive. Decoding an MPEG-2 encoded HD movie after you've read it from the drive is very CPU intensive.
Almost forgot the main purpose of the post...I checked my locals Sam's in Tead and Allentown, PA the last time this deal was posted and neither had the drives in stock - even went in one of the stores to double check. |

Releasing games on HD DVD would basically screw 95% of their fanbase, seeing as how very small number of people own the HD DVD addon. It would be a PR nightmare. And the fact that just about all games can fit on 9GB DVD disc doesn't make much sense to do that. |

they never said the would not release HDMI. They always suggested that HDMI would be released in the future "when necessary" and always left it ambiguous whether older consoles would get HDMI support or not. |

It wouldn't shock me to see games like Blue Dragon released on both. Probably not, but wouldn't be shocking. |

Uh...they've had it for awhile, albeit at almost msrp. But no notice of the new return policy, so looks like it's covered by the unlimited satisfaction guarantee.
Received mine from Costco.com yesterday and got it working (through boot camp) on my MacBook Pro. Will try to get it running with my Dell 8600 tonight. FWIW, I don't have an XBox, so this is sheerly to use as a (relatively) cheap HD-DVD solution. |

bigdave407 said:Ok Here is the deal, I posted this on Gizmodo as well. This is on clearance/cancelled in their system BUT in order for the computer to print the $72.54 price tag there needs to be only 1 or 2 left in the store. I took the price tag up to cashier manager (they are always at that stand in the middle behind the registers) she looked it up and it still showed $181 and she told me it was because they had 4 still in stock. I don't know if I bought 2, to get the price to drop then return them, then buy them again if that would work. I don't want to risk it, anyone know sames price adjustment policy?
-bigdaveI just came from Sam's in NJ, they had 2. Price stayed at 181 (plus tax) when the cashier rang mine up. I was told that even though it's a cancelled item, I could still return for up to 6 months. |
