Jiffy Lube did a great job of draining my oil, putting new oil in it without bothering to screw the oil pan nut on tightly
They did the exact same thing to me... I have never returned since. |

Thanks OP - green for you!
If you don't like/trust/use Jiffy Lube - stop TC'ing and move on - heck, OP even put Jiffy Lube into the title so that you can skip right over the thread. For those that do use Jiffy Lube, this is an awesome deal (I was able to use a $5 coupon ($25AC) they mailed me and still get the next one free). All this red just discourages more deal posting - OP should be recognized for advertising a deal.
As an aside, I've used them for years and never had a problem. |

i just wanna say, ALL THESE TYPES OF PLACES pull this crap. I used to work in a gas station once upon a time and I'm very on top of my car's maintenance. They're always telling me I need tranny fluid, fuel/air filters, flushes, etc... I went to get an oilchange maybe 2 months after I had a complete tune up and they tried pulling that crap. they'll show u the gunk in the oil cap (my car is old) and tell you it means your oil needs to be flushed. he showing me everything which had all been recently changed (filters, tranny fluid, etc....).
One thing about that video that kinda annoys me is the undercover doesn't ask at the end if all services were performed as paid for. Not that it makes a difference, but from a criminal standpoint it would totally rule out the "I forgot" defense. |

Thanks for the info OP!
I have an issue with what people have been saying regarding this post and many others like it.
1. Shouldn't we consider a deal without factoring in the retailer to a certain extent? People seem to like Staples, so if Staples had a $5 off $1000 coupon, does that make it a good deal because Staples is running the promotion?
2. I get that there are bad people who run these businesses but How can you make a blanket statement saying that ALL Jiffy Lubes and oil changes locations similar to Jiffy Lube are bad businesses. Thank you for sharing your bad experiences, but I wish that people can be open to different possibilities outside their own experience. If I never ate at a fast food restaurant that had a story about their food quality, I would never eat fast food again.
2. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who had good experiences with Jiffy Lube like me but never really said anything. People who've had bad experiences with a retailer are much more likely to vent on these forums than people who've had good experiences. Just because the majority of the posts in this forum are negative does not confirm your negative experience about Jiffy Lube.
My 2 cents. |

Umm...of course not?
This is NOT a retailer. Repeat, NOT a retailer. Retailers sell commodoties; an Acer monitor from Staples = an Acer monitor from Best Buy, and I'm going to buy it wherever it's cheaper (factor in warranty, return policy, whatever you like). This is a service provider. If they are incapable of providing a proper service / too lazy to do so / trying to screw you / whatever, and that can, in fact, RUIN your car's engine people should 100% at least be aware of that before making their decision. You know that little penny wise, pound foolish saying...
I'm not suggesting to never go to a retailer / service provider / restaurant because someone had a negative experience sometime. To suggest that is what everyone is saying is completely absurd, as is your argument in point 2. I won't address that further.
Your last point is entirely valid; people are much more likely to complain about bad service than to applaud good service on public forums.
I guess the relative volume of good vs bad is what's at stake here. I personally have never heard anyone (especially anyone that knows anything about their automobile) say anything positive about Jiffy Lube, but I know people who have had extremely bad (i.e. oil leak --> engine fire) experiences. |

Good point on the difference between a service and a commodity/product. I just find it hard to believe Jiffy Lube is having corporate meetings telling all its employees to screw with people's cars. That's all </blockquote></blockquote> |

There is no reason to fight. Buy one get one free oil change is good no matter what! So who wants to go for it they ware welcome. Butr as FWer it is resposibilty of other members to warn other readers. Like the way they always do in rebates. Some people still get those rebates and some don't. To be honest my suggestion will be - $20 deal is not worth the trouble you MIGHT encounter.
But decision is upto the reader as it goes in case of a rebate.
Thankyou FW |

If it's their job to change oil all the time and they can't do that right then there's something seriously wrong.
This is a reason why I avoid going to dealerships or national chain repair shops for maintenance I can't do myself. Especially, dealerships where they advertise "factory trained technicians" as a plus...yet they forget things just like those places. The problem with these shops is that they tackle on many cars at once and yes they are forgetful...it doesn't take a genius to fix cars...but it certainly seems like it takes one to remember to put the transmission dipstick back in the hole instead of on the engine block...what makes me think that is cause I refuse more service to the car.
Also is it me or the word "repair" is non existant in their vocabulary. Everything at these places is replace...yes I understand they make more money selling new parts to you but most of the time is not necessary. |

I have had two issues with Jiffy Lube in the past.
1. Got an oil change and drove 60 miles at the end of the trip we began to smell oil. Opened up the hood and there laid my oil cap on top of the engine. Oil was all over the underside of my hood.
2. Got an oil change and the next day the engine light comes on. Take it to the dealer and says "The air filter box wasn't latched properly. That will be $75 for the diagnostic." - In this situation Jiffy Lube did make the situation right but they weren't able to do it in the store. I had to call the corporate offices to get them to pay for my bill. Plus they didn't even credit me the oil change.
Needless to say...I stay away. |

VictorGuttmann said:Its a "meh". $44 seems quite steep for an oil change. I get a synthetic oil change for $20 at my local VW dealership for my GTI. Thats an everyday price too no special. Hey, that's a good deal. I didn't even think to check the VW dealer pricing for oil changes here. Going to do that before the next one. Thanks. |

either watch them do it, or make friends w/ someone who can help you do an oil change or other basic maintenance. these chains seem to be in business to rip people off. check out the latest video by NBC4, they busted Ez-lube again!

my cousin's integra had his oil pan drain plug stripped by a jiffy lube... i used totake my car to local mechanics, but i have since figure out how to do most everything myself. |

Usually the shops dont make much money on oil change. I have local mechanic who recently bought his own shop and he was telling me that oil change are the hardest to make money. It costs them $10-15. So if he charges $20 he is making nothing. Now places like jifyy lube will definetily will have higher costs. So oil change is just a gimmick to get people in and make them spend more by replacing things they dont need or repairing without work. close to my place there was a shop which always will give out free 41 point checkup coupon and $13 oil change coupon and over it free shuttle service. whnerver I take car to him he will tell me something and other is wrong. In the end something will turn out to be wrong which I think he intentionally did it. he told me to replace my drive belt at 90K. I didnt do it and my car has $110K on it. So be careful with deals. |
