Got my oil changed at jiffy lube on Sunday. The person working the counter told me about the buy an oil change, get the next one free. All I had to do was fill out the coupon. They also provided me with a pre addressed envelope so all I had to do was put a stamp on it and mail it. My oil changed cost $44 this time. So next time, its free.
EDIT: i know $44 is alot but im too lazy to change my own oil and my car is a 1998. So i get the synthetic oil for high mileage cars.
I didnt get conned. The oil change was for my an older model car. I got the oil change with the synthetic oil for high mileage car. The coupon is good for an oil change of equal or lesser vaule.

Jiff Lube got busted in Kansas City by a TV station that sent in a car with hidden cameras. They were doing all kinds of stuff that wasn't necessary.
Its a "meh". $44 seems quite steep for an oil change. I get a synthetic oil change for $20 at my local VW dealership for my GTI. Thats an everyday price too no special.
Jiffy Lube is a royal rip-off. They will always find some or the other than needs replacing when it mostly likely doesn't. You name it, air filter, wiper blades etc..etc. You can easily walk out of jiffy lube paying $50-$60. I think they vacumm your car as a gimmick to make you feel better.

Is your VW oil subsidized or something? You can't even buy enough synthetic oil to change a 4cyl out yourself for $20 unless there's a huge sale, let alone have someone else do it AND install a filter. I'd guess you're actually getting a dino/synthetic blend which is definitely not the same thing, but who knows. If it's a new GTI they do use full synthetic as the stock fill, but the older ones didn't. If you're getting a full synthetic change for $20, you're the one that should be posting a "Hot Deal". VW dealerships in the area charge about $70 for full synthetic in my neighbor's Passat.

i'm sure some jiffy lubes are shady, but that can be said for any place you get your oil changed. i've been going to jiffy lube for quite some time and never had any problems. just don't leave change/valuables in your car and you'll be fine. and don't give in to the hard sell (oh, you need a radiator flush, etc).
edit - just noticed there is a $5 off coupon at this link. that makes the deal even sweeter. 2 oil changes for around $12.50/each.
3 years ago, they messed up my oil gasket and over tightened the oil pan bolt while doing oil change. And I did not find it out until 6 months later from my car maintenance service. That cost me $400 to fix it and the store manager did not admit its their (his) fault and would not pay for the damange. And he insisted I should drive my car to his store for them to examine and fix it if required (How could I drive my broken car? Such a BS!).

thanks OP --- FW is full of ungrateful goof balls and idiots --- they knock you for sharing some good information --- it can get tiring to hear their noise --- but you can always hammer back with much more noise --- and if they really irritate you --- just delete the thread --- after all ---- you are gaining nothing from them --- you were trying to share information!

The OEM oil filter was $14 and after adding the price of oil you realized that parts alone were $18 but the dealership charged me only $19.99 and would promise that they would be done within 30 minutes of arriving at the dealership.
It would be an idiot to go there after watching this investigation video. Thank for posting

green for OP in my eyes. Either way if your going to get an oil change for regular 10-40 oil its going to cost you about 30+ dollars anyways. 18 dollars an oil change isnt bad at all.
I might just do my oil a 1000 miles early and get my car and gf out of the way...

Jiffy Lube stocks 0W-30. I need it for my Civic Hybrid as well, and Jiffy lube is the only place other than the dealer that I've found who will change the oil in a Civic Hybrid.
I had a friend that went to Jiffy Lube, they forgot to put the oil plug back on so he got on the highway and did not know he was leaking oil until the engine locked up and shut down on the middle of I-95. Fortunately he was able to get over w/o an accident. Jiffy Lube blamed it on him for improper driving technique and would not fix it. He took the to court and won.

I agree with you 100% - I get synthetic in my car and think its a good deal at $35 or so. 6 quarts of synthetic alone (at least for my vehicle) costs more than $25...plus labor plus the filter....to get it at $20 is excellent!
Jiffy Lube is having a lot of problems. In my area, the store is empty and the employees stand on the sidewalk next to the street and try to attract customers. Their prices are high and competition is everywhere. When you get an oil change they always try to up-sell you on stuff you don't need. Using these coupons is a little like going to one of those time share deals. A chance to get a good deal but you've got to be able to say no to the high pressure sales pitch.
WalMart is about $21 for a store brand oil and filter change, $25 for Valvoline and $28 for the full service change where the top off other fluids. So if you can stomach going to Jiffy Lube, you really are getting a great deal.

I wonder why anyone would go to a business with a history of abusing its customers. Even if one assumes that the posted deal had merit, it still comes form a company that rips of its customers. I have watched the videos and note that these videos pop up every two years or so in a different part of the country. The central management places great pressure on the regional mangament to produce "sales." these sales do not come from oil changes, but other service. At the same time, there is pressure to keep costs down. hint hint. No one says, don't use the parts or oil, they just tell you that unless your costs do not stay down, while your sales stay up, Your fired. Clearly, the manager has no choice other than shorting the customers, or losing his job.
This business should never be patronized for an occasional deal. It is penny wise and pound foolish.
Thanks for this informative video! Last time I took my car to one of these places (a Valvoline facility), they tampered with my spark plugs and wiring w/o asking me, which resulted in the car mis-firing so bad I had to take it to my *regular* mechanic to get it fixed. I threatened to sue them, so they ended up giving me my $$$ back. And this is just for an oil change - crazy stuff!

I received my coupon and my wife just went to use it and they REJECTED THEIR OWN COUPON BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS FAKE. They would have to be exceptionally, and I mean exceptionally, stupid to think that. The coupon itself has security features that make it impossible to copy (it will say void all over it ) just like a check, and on top of that, it was a highly publicized national promotion. You must have some stupid jiffy lube employees in your neck of the woods. Heck, I think I woiuld write a letter to their corporate offices and threaten a lawsuit for slander over that kind of treatment.....
By the way, I have two of the coupons and somehow I doubt my local lube is going to accuse me of fraud.......
