Every drug has its risks/benefits. Drugs for serious conditions (such as cancer) can pass with more sideffects, than drugs for mild conditions.
Also, every thing is toxic if you go over a certain dose or take it the wrong way. e.g snorting water instead of drinking it.
But yeah, there are lots of "funny" side-effects of drugs we learn here at pharmacy school. e.g cimetidine (Tagamet), for acid indegestion, could potentially cause male breats and lactation. LOL... XD
P.S: there are data that demonstrate some anti-depressants increase suicidal tendencies if not used properly. |

Benedryl is commonly used in hospitals as a safe, non-habit forming sleep aid. |

Ambien CR = new formulation = new patent, new FDA approval, etc.
So, no, only the regular Ambien is generic. It will be a LONG time befor Ambien CR goes generic, by which time there will be better generics available anyway (Rozerem, Lunesta, etc) It may not be as long as you think. Ambien CR is just time-release Ambien in a slightly higher dose. Its only supposed benefit is for people who can fall asleep but can't stay asleep with regular ambien. There is legal action to break the patent on it, on the grounds that time release is not enough of an innovation to warrant the protection. Courts are finally getting a bit tougher on drug company abuses of patent rights, so we'll have to see. |

Not by reputable docs. Benadryl is NOT a sleeping pill. It will make you sleepy, but there are much better alternatives.
I am suprised at this price since the price of generic's only drops a little when it's first release because the first company gets the generic release for 6 months all to themselves, before it's offered to other generic manufactures. |

My sleep pill is sex...I am dead asleep within 2 mins of ejaculation. All I need is a generic strong headache pill for my wife who seems to be having this strange "pounding in her head" when I am ready to pound. |

I would not break a pill in half if I was you. Some of the coats of the drugs are used as a time-release agent and breaking the pills in half may cause a screw-up of the pharmokinetics (metabolism of the drug) and thus altering the pharmodynamics (how the drug effects you). I would advise you to check with your doc or pharm before doing so. |

That is supposed to happen if you fight off sleep? Thats the only reason I get distracted enough to actually fall asleep in the first place.
So I guess I second that you totally do trip out.
But mixing with alcohol? Isn't that how you kill yourself? Or with these new sleeping pills is that no longer a risk? |

queentut said:Last month, finally, a generic version of ambien was released. (Ambien is the most popular prescription sleeping pill.) Costco has them (at least thru their mail-order pharmacy): 30 10mg pills cost $12.47, with free shipping.
The reason this is a hot deal is only partly the availability of the generic (the brand name costs $133.) The other part is Costco. 30 pills at Walgreens of the GENERIC version is $114.99!! I realize that Walgreens and other local pharmacies charge more than Costco, but I've never seen a 10x price differential before.

I took an Ambien last night and slept well for about 4 hours, then woke up, fell asleep, woke up, fell asleep ... It only has an effect for about 4 hours. The CR version just doesn't work as well. I'm really trying to find a natural alternative (music, boring talk radio, chatting with my wife, etc).
It is also habit-forming. You may find yourself taking one even before you know whether you are going to have trouble falling asleep, just to be sure you get to sleep.
And apparently I snore like a wood-chipper when I take it. That may have something to do with the respiratory side-effects.
Take it responsibly and don't even joke about taking it with alcohol or another depressant. |

Dude... I was taking ambien and last time I took it, I went to sleep totally sober and woke up sometime. I started drinking vodka. I woke up the next day with a brutal hangover and a half empty bottle; I don't remember anything.
That stuff is bad news.
johndude said:Only problem is that Ambien has been known to cause semi-permanent memory loss. Especially if you take one and then wake up after only an hour or two and stay awake (not a good idea). Also, many people have been known to SLEEP EAT, Yes eating everything in the kitchen with no memory of it the next day (My father used to do that, all the ice-cream missing next day!). Sweet Dreams ! |

If you try to stay awake after taking it, you will not remember anything after the drug has taken affect. You will also have some significant coordination issues so they are serious about not operating machinery. Don't even think of driving.
Mixing is just stupid. That's how most prescription overdoses occur not to mention the toxic effects on your liver, kidneys etc. |
