I checked my local BBB store that had the DC17 Animal for $549.99. I found a Lowe's price of $439.99. I called and they said they would match. I also was able to utilize a 20% off LNT coupon which expires 5/28 (http://LNT.imageg.net/graphics/coupon/LNT_0524_20email.pdf) Subtotal before tax $351.99.
The store manager agreed to all this over the phone as I live an hour away. He said to bring in a print out of the Lowe's webpage. However, when I went to check out he said that he couldn't do it. "We only price match locally," he said. The print out was from a Lowe's in Texas (out of state). Apparently, this is a stipulation......so he agreed to look at Lowe's prices closer to his store (in our town and surrounding areas). Fortunately, he found another Lowe's locally that had the $439.99 price.
He said that price matching locally means basically within the state. So, if you want this deal.....you'll have to login Lowe's Store sites by typing in the zip codes of specific stores. There main store has the regular price. Then see if it has the $439.00 price. Also, I should mention that I saw other models on sale as well ... DC14 and DC07.

Just exactly what is a Dyson DC17 you may ask? It's a vacuum cleaner. Personally, I'd be a little scared to have an animal cleaning my carpets, but, then again, I didn't major in marketing.
BTW, I tried to link to the coupon to make it easier to go to, but the link seems to be broken.

On the coupon do this...... do a google search for "linen and things 20% printable coupon".
About the 5th item down you'll see a link to the dealcatcher website. It's the first thing you'll see when going to their site.

fyi: just tried this thing out......great vacuum; great design; happy with the purchase.
Please post if you had similar success. It'd be good to know for future reference.
Good deal if you must have a Dyson. Those looking for a more frugal route should read this thread for some very viable alternatives. Even if you are buying a Dyson, the linked thread contains a wealth of info on vacs in general.
I received an Animal as a housewarming gift (thanks Mom!), and it's a helluva vacuum. After switching from a $60 Wal-Mart vacuum, there is definitely a difference. Very nice vacuum, easy to empty the canister, lots of power. Great for use with a couple of shedding dogs.

I did a "WalMart type thing" too, but bought a cheapee from Home depot.... $60.
I've read that some companies are trying to copy Dyson....... but their technology is patented. I really like mine......
Sounds like a big YMMV as now all Lowes have the same prices across the country. We found that out over many Lowes deals. Otherwise, good deal...if you can get it.

I was a bit surprised too that they'd take the coupon. But he said that one really doesn't have anything to do with the other. The starting point is their policy of "not being undersold". Once the price is established......any coupons would apply. He said they also take LNT coupons.
Do the google search as instructed. The 20% is good until the May 28th. I also found a BBB 20% coupon that was good until the 29th. I brought both to be sure at least one worked
cheapa55 said: Great deal! But my wife wants a darn Kirby >$1000+. Has anyone used a dyson AND a kirby? My wife inherited an 4 year old Kirby when her Uncle upgraded to a Rainbow. We took it to a vac shop for a tune-up (the belt wouldn't seat properly) and it worked well, but didn't exactly knock my socks off. We got a Dyson DC-14 Animal on a whim about 2 years ago, and it seems to do a much better job than the Kirby ever did.
I've read the claims that Consumer Reports and all those other guys say the Dyson's don't perform any better than various other vacuums, but I have a hard time believing it. The suction coming out of the thing is ridiculous. It's a lot stronger than my 5 gallon Lowe's shop vac, and the power is plain to see whenever I'm using the wand to clean up something like saw dust or a powder spill in the kitchen. The Dyson just goes to town. If they ever make a wet/dry vac I'll buy one in a heartbeat no matter how fugly a color they choose
Now the Kirby was built like a tank, and the Dyson is all plastic. It feels well engineered (the pieces all click together perfectly and easily) but I have no doubt the Kirby will be able to last a lot longer under any conditions than the Dyson. If you have a 2 story home, the Dyson is a lot lighter and easier to carry up and down stairs, so there's that to consider as well.
One other thing, the Dyson is the only vacuum I've ever used that performs well as an upright on a smooth floor with the beater bar turned off. I think it's due to the strong suction, but whatever the cause, you can use it to sweep your kitchen floor just as well as a broom can, if not better.
Anyway, we're happy with ours, and it's still running strong after more than 2 years of weekly use. The Kirby is collecting dust in the garage...reminds me, gotta list that thing on Craigslist and see if I can get rid of it.

I'd have to agree with you. Keep in mind that the "Cyclone Technology" keeps improving as the models get newer. The DC17 as the Cyclone 3, I believe. They just keep tweaking the thing.
My wife said, "WOW" after seeing how much dirt our old vac left behind. She is, after all, the final judge in that department.

This is a great deal for the DC17 with the new Cyclone 3! Called 2 BBB and only 1 would match and took the LNT coupon(Have a BBB coupon at home but was at work at the time). After tax, final price comes out to $381.03. Bought it in Santa Clara, CA on Stevens Creek Blvd(408-260-2219). Talked to Olivia and she was able to call Lowe's to confirm price and take coupon. She did say taking the coupon was a 1 time exception so YMMV. And if you have a Discover card, you can swing another 5% CB to make it sweeter. I already spent my $500 limit. Thanks OP! 1 more thing, if you can't get BBB to PM, you can try LNT. I'm guessing they have the same policy?

Gto shot down at both BBB and LNT in Plano, TX. BBB on 15th st. would do PM but no coupon to stack. LNT called Lowes store and store guy told him that price is still 549.99 even thgouh online for that store shows 439.99. I called Lowes store myself to verify price and they said it was 549.99 but if I am seeing 439.99 online - I should buy it.
Will try few more stores tomorrow. If anyone tried in North Texas, let me know if any store honors this. I would like to get 1 myself. If I get through this, will post more details tomorrow.

Tell your local BBB that the BBB store in Augusta, Maine PM'd and did the 20% LNT coupon on top of that. You also might try on another day with a different person.

I just got the dyson slim recently. Great vac. The regular ones seemed too heavy. The slim is about 5 lbs lighter then the others and has a ball for maneuverability. I used my LNT 20% coupon to get it for $375 plus tax at BBB (LNT didn't have them in the store, BBB does). The negative of the slim is that the canister is smaller so you would have to empty it more often.

Yes, I saw that model as well. What I like about the DC17 is that it comes with the low floor tool, the mini-turbine head, and the carpet cleaning kit. Plus, I like that is has a bigger bin for dirt.

Sweet.....gotta love when you score a deal like that. As I was leavning my local BBB I overheard the manager tell his co-worker, "Now that's the way to do it."
I hope others were able to get this deal. I've been looking over the vacuum and it is well designed. Everything was thought out.
Was able to get the local BBB store to price match from Lowes and then use the BBB 20% off coupon that was in the mail on Sunday.
the only bad thing is that they didn't have it in stock, so I had to pay shipping -- but considering the great deal, I don't mind paying a few extra bucks to lock in the savings.
Louisville, KY area if anyone is interested.

Just got back from my local BBB in Plainview, NY (Long Island) - they had a ton of the DC17 and the DC07.
I grabbed a few items that I went for (minus the Dyson) and then went up to customer service and asked for a manager. I asked the manager if they would price match to another store and would also accept a coupon too for the price matched item.
I then got the Dyson DC17 and price matched to Lowe's for $439 and gave them the LNT coupon for 20% off the entire purchase. The manager who was ringing up my sale (not the one who I spoke to) said I could not use the coupon with the price match. I explained that I already spoke to another manager and gestured towards her. Sooo, reluctantly, he did the PM and used the coupon, but he was NOT happy about it.
gabendonna said: HI What is BBB? thanks Donna Bed Bath and Beyond - their 20% off coupons are usually easy to find, and they almost always allow you to use them on stuff that is listed as excluded on the coupon - like Dyson vacuums!
