SliverOfFear said: poisonz said: Im really not sure why this software is so big, just for screenshot. I had some screen recorder, and they are only about 4mb- 9mb. It does FLV and AVI for outpot. For just jpg output, I think it should be smaller.I'm seeing this complaint rear its head more often, which puzzles me. Are you so pressed for disk space that you can't condone a 13mb program? Or are you so pressed for memory that you can't handle 13mb loaded? Either way, welcome to FW ... stick around for awhile and you'll find a thread dedicated to solving both potential problems.
I think most think, the larger the file is, usually the more of system resources/Memory it uses. we have got addicted to SPEED! Me personally I try to use the stuff with the smallest footprint i can find. which tends to be opensource.

Thanks OP.
I have been looking for this s/w for some time.
[I had been using ROBO SCREEN CAPTURE which does almost the same, but SNAG IT has a few more bells and whistles].
A year ago, I had gotten CAMTASIA V3, when I bought a copy of PC PRO or PC ADVISOR magazine.
Great post.

Doesn't anyone use "Screen Print" button anymore? Last thing I need is another program to load at boot and tie up resources. Nice find OP but No Thank you for me.

This is a great little product. While the built-in Windows print screen is fine, SnagIt makes it easier to select very specific parts of the screen - toolbars, menus, non-focused windows. If you do any amount of screen capture, I highly recommend it. It also allows you to immediately view and save the screenshot, rather than having to open up paint and copy, then save it.
And, uh, it's free.

As another free alternative, you can use IrfanView
It's a great small graphics utility program with a whole slew of plugins.
It has a terrific screenshot feature as well - I use it all the time when creating PP presentations and such.

If you want something smaller and also free try 'MWSnap'. Its got a lot of the same functionality and is only 650KB.
.... yeah, but which 4? ABBA? Ace of Base? Steps? Menudo?
Generally larger programs have autostart, background services, etc that begin to eat up resources. Add enough of these programs and you can get some serious start-up and shut-down lag - especially if you do the majority of you work on a laptop like I do. Yes, we all know these 'features' can be disabled with a little effort.
Its programmer arrogance that says their little utility is so important that it must run all the time - QuickTime, Adobe, etc. A simple yes/no choice at the time of installation for loading at startup, running services, etc would be helpful instead of making you hunt down the crap just to disable a 'feature' you probably don't need.
Its a great program for those that need and use the majority of its features. Thanks to the OP for posting it. I was simply offering an alternative because a lot of people don't need and won't use all the bells and whistles.

I have not yet received the free key for this software. It has been 12 hours, since the key seems to be the same for all, will someone post it.

Are you serious ? I use that program all the time, never knew it can take screenshots ! Can it take partial page / section screenshot ? Do you use any short-cut keys to get the screenshot feature start by a couple clicks ?
Still the same serial number. wale said: Is that YW6RC number being sent to everyone?

Thanks! Grabbed a copy. I use this version at work and works quite well. Only thing that really drives me nuts is the thing grabs my pointer even when I select the option not too. Can't figure out what the deal is.
Personally I like Screenshot Captor which I use at home (donationware). To me it's a little easier to use than SnagIt. Plus I like the scrolling capture better than SnagIt though I haven't seen what it's like in v8.x.

FYI, when you fill in the info, you have to put something that make sense. Like for name, you have to put first name and last name. For example, if you just put first name, you are not going to get any email.

I use Snagit at work ALL THE TIME. Best screen capture tool anywhere IMO. Captures animation/video too - great for teaching and tutorials. Captures screen, window or region. Grab....errrrr...SNAG a copy now!
