Anyone successfully replaced the draft n wireless card and added the another card? Are they able to run the new card on XP without issue? I am about to return the unit I have that is still in the box. |

Yes I got an email for a guy who used the Intel 4965AGN and he said it worked great. |

Yeah, the Gateway is a good computer and this was a great deal. It was a close call for me too.
grm0331 said:gwd302 said:I returned my laptop to the Greensboro NC store this morning, in case anyone wants to try to get it (it was never opened). Instead, I decided to get the Acer Aspire 5610-4610 that went on clearance yesterday.
I thought about doing that as well, even though I am already using the Gateway. I decided to keep the Gateway due to the 64 bit chip, dedicated video memory and seemingly better build quality, but it was a tough call..... |

ATI has released a new video driver. My desktop video score went up to 2.8 from 2.7. My goal is to get over 3.
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/integrated-vista32.html
Anybody getting anything different?
How does the video chipset work regarding using system memory? I know it has 128mb dedicated, but can it draw from main memory as well? If yes, is it automatic? Is there a setting somewhere that we can use to allocate memory for video? |

OK if the model # listed in Device Manager is correct, looks to me like the datasheet shows the hard drive is 5400RPM PATA?

Gateway stinks!
the rubber feet fell out of mine in less than a year, so it was uneven and wobbly and getting less ventilation than needed. I called for support and Gateway said I'd have to replace the whole computer at my expense to get new feet. They couldn't send out $0.75 of rubber.
Instead I ended up cutting up a rubber eraser and got really ugly misshapen feet and glue on the bottom of my computer.
Never again will I consider a Gateway machine. Horrible company. |

I think it was confirmed as being a SATA drive earlier in the thread. |

Hmm so the model # listed in Device Manager is wrong? I do remember questions about whether it was 4200RPM or 5400RPM. But other than ccsave's post I can't find any confirming it.
The model # in zhelder's post is HTS541616J9SA00 (SATA). Device Manager shows me HTS541616J9AT00 (PATA).
OK a search for SATA in this topic shows a couple of posts claiming it's SATA and others saying it's not. |

Is the 4965AGN card just a plug and play option here? I mean can you just swap the maddog car with the 4965AGN without any soldering or anything? How are the antenna connections? Its hard to tell from the online pics of the 4965AGN. Looks like the 3 antennas should just plug right in. Thoughts? |

Never again will I consider a Gateway machine. Horrible company. I have a 2 year old Gateway laptop and the same thing happened to two of the rubber feet within one month of use. I was able to attach one of them back using glue but the other one got lost. When I called them within the warranty period I was old to send the whole thing back to them to just have one of the feet replaced. Sounds pretty ridiculous. All that aside, this thing has worked flawlessly never giving me any problems. It came with XP Pro installed and has never had a stutter. |

From what I read on another forum - that card is a drop and replace card. there are 3 screws on the topdog one and also on the intel one - very small screws I hear but no soldering needed. |

Hrm kind of old post but i just solved this problem on my laptop (the one from this deal) yesterday. Bought this card from Directron after the intel 3945 didnt work, and yes the 4965AGN works perfect. Just one screw and 3 pop off / press on antenna terminals is all (oh and the 1 case screw hehe). |

Does BK offer free wireless? I thought they all charged for the service. |

Yup, the BK by my work offers it for free. Not sure about the other ones though. Look for "Wireless Hotspots" signs at the front door. |
