How does car insurance work while you are there? Does your US insurance cover you driving a car overseas?
I can imagine if someone rear ends you (not even your fault) that it could totally screw up the plan. |

i dont know about others, but as for BMW you get a 14 day bumper to bumper insurance plan as part of ED and if you go past that there is a list of prices for it depending on how long you want insurance for. And if you have question about shipping the car back to the states, its part of the destination charge. That charge is there whether or not you do ED. |

val3ntin3s said:brownie20 said:i bought a bimmer a few weeks ago at basically invoice (maybe $50 more than invoice?), but if i had gone the ED route and paid about $1000 above ED invoice (a "fair" deal), i would have saved $1-2K. you need to really look at the prices to appreciate the savings...
what model did you get to get the $50 over invoice?
haha, dont worry, it wasnt your 335i, twas a much more basic 328xi
and for the poster asking about insurance, from ED info
European Delivery price includes: * 14 days of free premium road insurance * Tourist registration * Factory preparation * Inland European transportation from the designated drop-off point * Marine insurance * Customs duty and clearance * U.S. port processing and accessory installation * Wharfage and handling fees
you pay for additional days of insurance
and for the person who said you dont save much for ED, let's calculate estimated savings from a base version of my car: from the same link above US MSRP ED MSRP savings 2007 328xi Sedan $34,300 $31,900 $2,400
but, invoice pricing (without $180 training service fee) US Invoice ED Invoice 2007 328xi Sedan $31,555 $29,350
so if you get the car for $1000 over ED invoice (a "fair deal" according to most on bimmerfest), you're looking at $29350+1000 = $30350
i'm not sure if they would tack on the training fee with ED. regardless, that's still over $1000 BELOW INVOICE. dont know if you'd be able to negotiate BELOW INVOICE at a bimmer dealership, but you can certainly try... so in conclusion, there's definitely a little bit of a savings (enough to buy plane tickets and maybe a few nights hotel stay), if you have the time to do ED. and it's undoubtedly the way to go for people in the market for a 335i, since those cars are a LOT LESS negotiable... |

actually i mispoke. apparently i did get the car for under invoice; after recalculating the invoice cost (with the options i have), it seems that i got the car for $125 below invoice, if you count destination and training fees. i'd gotten the quote before the slight march hike tho, so maybe that's how i managed to get the car below invoice... |

Agreed. Anyone who bothers to crunch the numbers will see that you WILL save money doing ED (at least for a BMW, which is what I'm familiar with).
However, this needs to be balanced by the travel costs, which can be significant given the depreciation of the dollar vs Euro, and the depreciation of the car during the 6+ weeks it's floating in the Atlantic.
BMW doesn't try to sell it as a way to save money on the car, but rather as a way to get a memorable experience paid for with the savings. |

My TV told me that there's help for men with ED.
I didn't realize that it was such a big problem of FW. |

I may have misunderstood this deal.
brownie20 - you are saying that the ED price is negotiable? That I can get a 328xi for $30,350 with ED? Are you sure? |

I was able to get $1000 less that the posted/"fixed" OSD price for my 2007 Volvo XC90. Here's my thread from a few weeks back.
I dunno about BMWs though... |

when you do ED the car doesn't come out of the dealer's alotment therefore its almost like free money for the dealer which means more room to deal and reel.. as long as they make some money off you you should be able to negotiate w/ them as long as its above the ED invoice price. |

yup, tis negotiable. whether you can get it for $30,350 exactly will depend on your skill, luck, and perseverance, but around 1k over ED invoice is considered fair. you may even be able to get it for less... seriously, take a look at bimmerfest - there's even an ED wiki there. |

I thought you are not supposed to drive over 55 - 65 mph during the break in period?!
how fast were u going on the autobahn?
I got 11% off MSRP (sticker) on my E550 last December from South Bay Mercedes. I figured that is about the same price discount with the trip pay for by Mercedes. Of course, I didn't have to spend any more money while touring Europe.
val3ntin3s said:like the article said, the Euro delivery program is pretty old w/ some german companies such as BMW. However Audi just started their ED this past year. I went on my ED w/ BMW last Oct and although it was only 5 days it was totally awesome (and being able to drive on the A-bahn is wow...)! Also considering the trip at least "paid for it self" when you compare the price you saved from buying the car off the lot doesn't hurt either. Might I add BMW's ED currently has a 2 for the price of 1 plane tix via Lufthansa (but depending on when you travel thats not always the cheapest route). The only kicker is waiting for re-delivery of your car here in the states. Longest 6 weeks ever... click on links below to see the more about ED programs for diff. manufacturers and if interested my pics from my ED.

not supposed to go past 100mph during break-in (but man was it tempting to, specially when the Porsche passed me going around 140) i was going 100 and it felt like i belonged in the slow traffic...... and/or pass 3k RPM for the first hundred miles, then 4k rpm for the next hundred, then 5k for the next, and so on... there's a million ways that are "proper" to break in the car, all in the eye of the beholder... |

Neophyte question( and no, I'm not on the website for convicted neophytes!): I thought the biggest expense was in emission conversions to meet US standards, especially for CA? Not sure about other states, but I seem to recall this being a huge deal breaker in the past on similar deals. |
