Verizon's customer service is trash, their phone feature disabling is trash, and their service costs more to boot. In major cities, reception on tmobile is pretty much on par with verizon, at least in the DC area(with the exception of the metro).
I was talking about Verizon's network. Can you hear me now ?
btw, VZW customer service is not bad either |

Hi,
I also flashed it to V191, seems it's the only way to flex language pack to it. My question is: Will flashing V195 with V191 RAM unlock the phone? If not, what step I need to take to unlock it? |

I received the phone and I think it is hard to unlock without T-Mobile if you just want to unlock, don't go for it.
Called T-Mobile and was informed that as policy you have be on the account for 90 days before you get the code. |

I am not sure if flashing to V191 is the only way to get language pack in. If you can find a chinese V195 .shx file, you are set. However, I had no choice because the file I thought was just a lanugage pack was actually the whole thing, and L2 one too. I had no access to a chinese v195 .shx file so I went with a V191 one.
Unlocking V195, I heard is very hard to do, test point and maybe smart clip.
Luckily, I am a loyal Tmobile customer, so I got the unlock code already.
On the other hand, I was wondering about if it's possible to unlock this phone with moto unlocker software after downgrade to V191.
Anybody willing to give it a shot? It's very interesting. Unfortunately, I can't do it now since my phone is already unlocked. Otherwise, it would be fun. |

Thanks for all the replies. Now the language pack issue has been taken care of:
First, I flashed it into V191 RAM which has 0015 language pack, then I think maybe I can extract the 0015 language pack (CG4) from the V191 RAM and write it back to my original V195 RAM. I tried, and it did work. The software you need to do it is Flash&Backup
If any one need the 0015 language pack, please PM me. or you can teach me how to attached it in reply. |

Wow, you got Flash&Backup working for V195? I can't get mine V195 to backup .shx at all.
If that's true, that's awesome. Do you mind give me the V195 .shx file with 0015 language pack? I will PM my email addres to you. I've actually make my V195 into a V191 now. Don't have bluetooth fuction now. |

Yes the Flash&Backup does work with V195, the phone profile I chose is "Motorola L6". What you need to do is flashing your phone back to V195 using the original T-Mobile RAM. (I hope you backup your RAM), then write this 0015 language pack into it. Updated 08/05/2008: For the 0015 language pack, you can find the instruction and files from mitbbs.com PDA board.精华区 |

If I get this phone for my summer trip to Europe (assuming I can get it unlocked) what is the procedure for using it in Europe? I assume I would need to replace the SIM card with a different one that works in Europe? How much do these SIM cards go for over there? Are they precharged/loaded with minutes? I am assuming it would be much cheaper than renting a cellphone for a place like WorldCell, right? |

Yep, you go to the first wireless shop (avoid airport shops, they are a ripoff), and get a prepaid SIM card with a number of minutes. They are very cheap (say, 5-10 Euro for 10-15 Euro worth of calls and you get the SIM card too). Many European cards expire in 1 year, unlike the US ones which give 60 days before refill. Also, the EU forced the wireless providers to lower the roaming rates substantially (50%-70%), and now calling from one country while using a SIM card bought in another country is not as outrageously expensive (it goes into force in August). |

Another big advantage of using your own phone is the convenience, because you don't have rent and return a cappy used phone. Also you can buy the sim card even before your trip, so you can use your phone abroad immediately (without having to a cellular store to buy a sim card).
So not only is it cheaper to use your own phone (with a local prepaid sim card), it's infinitely more convenient.

Posted many times, the sim is installed, Tmo does not want to be called and asked how do I do this.
You still need to activate the account if you are going to. If you have your own current sim, use it. Sell the unactivated kit on eBay. |
