wifi was for 1.99 a month for all att dsl subcriber so you could go to barnes and noble and many other places and use the hotspot to conect to the internet
now its free starting july first for pro and elite subscriber... wifi is also available at McDonalds too
Fine print in the second link: *Subscription service is currently not available in Connecticut. AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet U-verse Enabled customers receive AT&T Wi-Fi Basic Subscriptions free of charge.

I assume this does not include Premium Roaming Location? (meaning extra charge)
And looks like any location other than McDonald and Barnes & Noble are Premium Roaming Location.

Yeah, good deal since I've been paying that $1.99 per month.
It is a great option for those having ATT/SBC DSL. Almost all McDonalds, Barnes & Nobles, UPS Stores, Airports (e.g both Chicagoland), some Hospitals!, most Wyndham/Holiday Inn and a bunch of other Hotel chains and even Cosi restaurants offer this!
Driving around Chicagoland, I have never been more than a few minutes away from a free HotSpot Good speeds too

HHmm..I called ATT today, and the rep said there is no promotion on the Wifi. He tried looking in his system, and he doesn't see the thing about free wifi for dsl subscribers.

- there is not much UPS Stores around places like California and New York (using couple big states as example) that offer wifi. If they do, it is likely Premium roaming location which I understand you need to pay extra. - Again if you do a search in those couple big states, most airports only have "Premium roaming" which is not free. - almost all Inn/hotels are Premium roaming, again, not free from what I understand. - for hospital, which is not a lot of them have this and how often you go to hospital to go online? - for all other location, if you check, most if not all of them are Premium roaming.

there are over 1300 locations in california alone where you get the free basic wifi for free
when you use the locator make sure you chose the basic wifi(which is free for att subscribers)

I didn't say you won't find at&t free wifi location in my posts, so not sure what are you trying to say by posting all those location. My first post is confirm that pretty much mainly McDonald and Barnes & Noble are likely to have free at&t wifi. As we know, there are A LOT OF McDonald in US. Anywhere else like airport, Inn/hotel, etc are likely a miss (since almost all of them are Premium Roaming location or don't have at&t wifi). My second post is to point out which locations listed in the post before are unlikely to have free at&t wifi based on those stores/location listed in that same post. AT&T site said they have wifi but those places most likely are Premium Roaming Location which is not really free from my understanding. In the list on AT&T site when searching airports in California, they list 20 or more of them, only 3 of them have at&t free wifi (the big one like SFO, Oakland, San Jose, San Diego, etc, are Premium Roaming). Some of them are not even listed like LAX, Sacramento airport, etc. Again, I just point out airports are mostly Premium Roaming location or no at&t wifi. Thanks for confirming from the airport list.
BTW, when I said Airport, I really mean inside Airport. Rental car location usually is pretty far away.

I don't know what you are talking about. Are we reading the same posts here?
My first post is asking if mainly Barnes and Nobles, McDonalds have free wifi. And most of the other places are Premium Roaming Location which I think it is not free and asking to confirm. Your first reply kind of confirm this is free basic wifi. But then your second reply mentioned also avaiable in UPS Stores, Airports , some Hospitals!, most Wyndham/Holiday Inn and a bunch of other Hotel chains and even Cosi restaurants offer this...Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf , Avis , Rainforest Pizza. And NO MENTION of "Premium Roaming Location" which is not free. And my reply is just to point out most of those location other than Barnes and Nobles, McDonalds are either not free because they are Premium Roaming Location (or not much of those places around). I guess at this point, you are starting to misunderstand my posts. Remember my posts are related to "Premium Roaming Location". Since in your reply after that, you mention airport and that's why I mention most airports (really inside airports and not just around it) are Premium Roaming location (again, I am not fixed at airports since I am not the one started to focus at airport by providing the list). Remember I didn't mention in any of my posts there are not a lot of Barnes and Nobles and McDonalds around that have free wifi. If you think about it, just by having free wifi in Barnes and Nobles and McDonald's already cover a lot of places. Almost all people that take advantage of at&t free wifi likely use in Barnes and Nobles or McDonald's, etc. And your last post is just totally personal attack and make even less sense. There is no reason for you to reply since there is no argument here (may be that's why you think is BS posts since there is no argument here so nothing to argue about) when we both think there are a lot of places like McDonald's that offer free at&t wifi if all you trying to prove is there are a lot of free at&t wifi locations. My posts just point out which places are Premium Roaming location but I guess somehow you take it personally and mistakingly think I mean there are not a lot of free wifi location which I am not saying that at all. We are all here to provide info/deal/review , etc, for everyone else. Not sure why people have to take everything so personally here and start personal attack. If my info is wrong, then point it out. I won't take it personally for that.
BTW, I also rate this deal GREEN now that the website is updated to confirm the deal.
Just read chowdavtw post, some people still think all those places offered wifi for free and it is good to point out what's "Premium Roaming location". It is information that people want to know and may not know.

I just learned about this today. I have AT&T's 3.0 DSL so I should get the free wifi. I haven't tried this out yet but say I go into a McD's with my Dell Axim PDA...what log-in info do I need to connect to their wifi hotspot? Do I need to call AT&T to set up/activate my wifi first?

Based on this AT&T website, it said AT&T Wi-Fi Basic is FREE to AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Pro or Elite and AT&T FastAccess® DSL Xtreme or Xtreme 6.0 customers, no ordering required.
Not sure if no ordering required mean don't need to register or activate for it.
And if you go to this AT&T wifi location site, you can look for the location of the McD's that has free wifi. Usually, the setting is SSID: attwifi
I assume after you get access to it and bring up your web browser, it will take you to the AT&T website where you need to use your AT&T DSL userid/password to login. Someone actually tried it can provide more detail information.

I assume after you get access to it and bring up your web browser, it will take you to the AT&T website where you need to use your AT&T DSL userid/password to login. Someone actually tried it can provide more detail information.
Yup. You got the nail right on the head.
I called AT&T up and asked if I needed to register for the service before I could access the network. The C/S rep told me that all I had to do was select the appropriate SSID to access the logon screen then enter my account name & password associated with (your) AT&T/SBC/etc. 3.0 or 6.0 DSL account.

got a question. I'm moving to an new address that uses AT&T. Is it possible to sign up for DSL without getting telephone service? I use cellphone exclusively, and paying for a land-line is like throwing away $20-30 a month.
Anyone have experience with how far from the McDonalds store you can get a signal?

Thanks in advance for those who knows. I've asked an AT&T representative about this, and he said that naked DSL is more expensive without the phone line, so in the end it actually works out to be more expensive if you just buy DSL by itself. I don't know if it's true or not though.
Btw, I only pay about $10/month (incl. taxes) for my landline with AT&T, so I'm not sure if that applies for you.
confirmed the deal. I'm an existing ATT DSL Elite customer with ATT Wifi subscription. After reading this thread, I looked up my past bills. I've been charged with the $1.99 for ATT Wifi every month until my June bill. My July bill, that fee went away. This all happened without me having to ask ATT (which can be hard since I did not know about it until now).
I have used ATT Wifi in many McDonalds, some airports, and B&N with my laptop and PSP. Worked great though the signal range can be a bit small. You'll pretty much have to sit inside the McDonalds to get strong enough signal.

If yes, do you recall how much? Thanks!

Just got off the phone with the Cancellation department and got the $25/mon for Pro for 1yr term w/ $10 credit for 6months. Took less than 10 minutes including hold time.
