I've been buying stuff off of costco.com with my AMEX card for a while now. I'm not a member and I've never been charged the 5% surcharge. I've never had to type in a temporary membership number. Have other people been charged 5% if they used their AMEX?

you can really take advantage of this membercard number. You can get finance on costco.com.
But I dont know who will pay the money later, the AMEX or they will send to the shipping address.

Yeap. There's no penalty. I used the gift card to get into Costco to buy cheap food in my college days, and just refilled it or got another one from my parents. Only downside is that you don't earn the CashBack you'd get for normally using a Costco card.

Oh! C'mon people. Lets talk some deals to be had from costco.com rather than tangential posts on how to shop at Costco B&M.
