amazing product, very worth it. just be cautious with the heat it can generate

NON-archived thread.

This is a very good charger!

Thanks in for one!

FYI, this charger can charge batteries that are above .9v. Otherwise, they will read "Null." (This is the statement that I got from LaCrosse.)
This happened to some of my Kodak nimh batteries which are almost brand new.
You might need any cheap charger to fix this problem.

Great charger......I was thinking about getting this alot lately...... I have been waiting for it to go down in price though.......it seems that this is the normal Amazon price. At least it has been for a while.

Don't forget to check your "Gold box". It showed up for $37.41 for me today.

This is one of the best chargers in the market. The price is Amazon's regular pricing however... A couple of month ago I bought it from them for $34.95.

I bought this in May when it was on sale for a couple of bucks less. Charging Bank # 3 arrived DOA, but I didn't realize it until over a month later. La Crosse replaced it quickly, although on my nickle to send it back. It has a lot of features, still trying to figure a few of them out. Well worth the price.

This really is an awesome product. Take everyone's word for it!

It happenned to me before but later on they added the picture how to revive the dead bat, I tried and it worked. If you have the old charger is good, if not, follow the pic.

For the price, it is a ok deal

UNTRUE! Regular Amazon price is $51 and it has been for at least the past few weeks. Apparently the manufacturer raised the MSRP by $10 and Amazon has not had it below $50 for a little while. Almost pulled the trigger yesterday for $51. Thanks OP!

True, I got it for $35 6-8 months ago, good charger. Cant complain has a lot of features such as discharge that I never use.

i bought it for 37 or so two and and half months ago. it's a great charger!

I hate to "me too" on this, but yes, this is the best battery charger on the planet. If you recharge batteries AT ALL, this one if you for. It recovered two dead batteries for me last night (after a day of deep cycling).

Great addition to the thread. Happen to have a couple super-depleted dead ones that I've been trying to trick a charger into charging for a week now. Within a minute of seeing your post, it's finally charging!

And agree: Great charger, ok deal. If you need a charger and batteries quickly, jump on it.

Ordered 1....been waiting for the price to go down since $5x.xx
Thx OP!
this item was not in my Goldbox. could saved $2.xx

This price at Am@zon has not changed for over a month. I have been seriously looking to purchase a good charger very soon now. I'm just about to pull the trigger on the MAHA MH-C9000. It is getting hot reviews. It is $20 more expensive though. Read the reviews and decide what you need. Don't forget Candle Power forums for reviews.

Holy mother of god. I've been looking for a site like that for a long time. I always wonder how low Amazon drops the price on some products.

GREEN for alesmith56 & OP for such great info & deal.

I was in the same boat..looking for a price drop on this for a while...was about to place order yesterday for 51.xx. I have about 12 AA Panasonic 2300Mah batteries which are almost dead..let's see how many can be brought back to life.

Is this still the case with the "new firmware" which everyone keeps talking about? This is a great charger, but I've encountered the "NULL" battery a number of times. Usually what I have to do is get out my cheapie timed charger and give a base charge, and then I can put it back into the LaCrosse and it will start charging it from there.

For those people who don't want to deal with charging rate numbers or discharge cycling, I highly recommend the MAHA C401FS which is the charger I had prior to the LaCrosse (and gave to my brother.) It has a simple to understand red light/green light for each cell and doesn't have problems charging <0.9V depleted cells.

Oh, and the Lacrosse batteries that came bundled with my charger were absolute crap BTW.

I love my BC900 but that Maha MH-C9000 looks nice.

I'm interested in the battery "break in" feature.

I paid $49.99 at Amazon on June 4, 2007. BUT, well worth the price!

is this hackable?

I would not say this is a good idea. There is nothing here to regulate the current (except the dead battery). Anyone that is using rechargeables, and interested in this product, already has an old charger. Use that to get started.

I guess the output of the charger is regulated, but are you sure you are not dumping the full current from the other battery into the dead one...

Thanks OP. I was going to buy this right when they jumped the price up and I have been waiting for it to go back down. My old charger has been not working as well over the last couple months.

If you 'roll' the cursor over the picture, a note will come up saying "Note on Step 3: In case the dead cell has developed a short circuit (very rare), it may continue to draw a huge current from the good cell. So watch out for signs of over-heating!"

Thanks OP. Been waiting over a month for this to be a "reasonable" price again.

I missed the cursor over part. These new cells hold so much energy that one needs to be a bit careful.

I still say this is not that great of a deal. It might be a couple bucks off Amz normal price, I didn't write it down but it has been very close to this the last month. Or maybe the same.

Great charger with a few problems as have been noted. I've been studying specs for a month now. This will probably work really well for most folks.

yeah, it took me a while to decide between the two. eventually settled for the lacrosse.

How does this charger work with eneloop batteries from Sanyo (the ones that hold their charge longer than other NIMH batteries and come charged)

Any experience out there?

StrawManArg said: How does this charger work with eneloop batteries from Sanyo (the ones that hold their charge longer than other NIMH batteries and come charged)

According to this, yes!

This was found under the "customer discussions" section of the Amazon page for the charger.

From what I have read any smart charger works great with the eneloop batteries. This is off CPF.

I plan to have more eneloops, but they are still expensive. Here again it depends on the use. Every year I get more AA and AAA stuff. Just ordered the Am@zon Logitech (Harmony thing) super remote control that should be here in a couple of days. I just received a bunch of 2700 AA rechargables. My Olympus battery charger works great.

I think I am going to get the Maha MH-C9000. I still think it is a lot of money for a charger though.

Good luck to all...

As an afterward, I think that what you select depends on your nerd quotient. Did you come up with your own solution to the Rubics Cube? Do you really need all these features? I'm a NERD.

Finally ordered this, thanks for the headsup. Regretted not getting it at the $35 pricepoint.

I like the freebies. Since it comes with 4-AA and 4-AAA batteries that's about $10-$15 anyway I was going to spend (although they are not as good as Enloops for example). I also kept meaning to pick up a few of the C and D battery adapters too.

Maybe this will revive a couple of my Duracell NiMH that aren't really working very long anymore.

If you're interested in keeping an eye on a specific item (for possible PM or buy when it drops to the bottom) I would recommmend Rsstalker which gives you an RSS feed for any product or wish list. If you're trolling for deals, they have a feed of all Amazon price changes of more than 10%. Unfortunately they do not filter 3rd party sellers very effectively so you can get false information from the feed. If anyone has a better site that does just Amazon.com prices (and not 3rd party) I would be interested in knowing.

Awesome! FatWallet Instant Topic Alerts are great! I've been watching the price at Amazon for a month now, and this is by far the lowest in that time. I ordered one. Too bad it wasn't also in my gold box, but this is still a great price. I'm surprised I haven't also received my price drop e-mail from the Amazon Price Watch site yet.

you probably should get one soon. It seems like the frozenwarrior site only checks prices once a day in evenings. What I posted was from 17:27 PDT.

If any one knows of a site that is closer to real time I would be all ears!

Skipping 94 Messages...

Hi,

I have had one of these for about a year now and it is a great charger, but it has many more settings than most chargers. It is my main charger and I have a smaller travel one that I use when on the road (not Lacrosse). I know I should have mastered the thing already, but I don't use it that often as I have a lot of eneloops that hold the charge well.

Anybody have any good links to a more simplified set of instructions for this thing? The manual is not the greatest and I spend a few minutes trying to remember how to set all different options each time.

Maybe someone wrote a better instruction sheet for all the features on this popular device? Anybody seen something like this?

Thanks,
C.
