If you don't want to deal with PayPal, there is a Newegg newsletter $20 off coupon floating around specifically for the Nuvi 660. It does NOT stack with the PayPal coupon.
If you don't want to deal with the rebate, it is available at Buydig for $544.49 with no tax and free 7-9 business day shipping.
I called Newegg to check the map version, and they said they can't confirm the version because they don't have access to the unit S/N until it ships from the warehouse. I then called Garmin, where I was told that once I receive the 660 from Newegg, I can call Garmin and request a free update to the latest software version.
Edit 8/11: I got my GPS from Newegg. It has the old maps, but I called Garmin, and they placed an order for my 2008 maps DVD. No pain.

GPS Magazine article dated 08/02/07 has list of Garmin products which are eligible for a free map update and also states:
"To qualify for the free map update, you must have purchased your GPS post May 1st, 2007 (and you'll need to register the GPS with Garmin, be able to show proof of purchase with the date)."
Aha .. nice deal on what is probably the best consumer-oriented GPS system on the market today. I got mine from Buydig and am hoping it's pre-loaded with the v.2008 maps.

Yeah, tax is a bummer for CA folks. I am in GA, however, and it worked out to be the perfect deal for me at $515. Even better than the Costco deal at $499+tax.
