Sears is currently selling PANASONIC TH-42PX75U 42" HDTV Plasma for $1,199+Tax.
Yesterday I did a price match with Frys.com [They are selling it for 1,099+Shiping] and took a printout of the frys.com shopping cart [don't add the shipping charge] and went to local Sears store [Costa Mesa, CA] and bought the TV for $1,089+Tax. Price Match with 10% on the difference would bring the TV cost from $1,199 to $1,089+Tax and dont forget the FatWallet Cash Back $60.50
So the final price would be $1,029+Tax.
Dont try to do a price match at CC or BB, they dont accept FRYS.com [Online store price match, they will price match only with local fry's store advt]. Sears sales folks are flexible, if you're nice with them.
about the same price if u were to use the 15% off coupon here

I did'nt try the 15% coupon.
I registered in for 15% coupon here, but so far i hav'nt got any coupon from Sears.
This title should definitely say YMMV...My CS reps at my local Sears argued back and forth with me saying frys isn't local (even thought it was in there system). I am still steaming....Hope you get a nice CS rep...

I dont know why people get bent outta shape when a place refuses to PM a frys.com price. Hell even fry's store wont match their web site price. I guess the comapnies should apologize at people getting upset because their trying to screw em over.

Fry's this week (in-store) ads has this TV for a whopping $1099.
maybe its just me but last black friday i bought a hdtv 42" from Sears for $919 less $200 install rebate for a net of $719 and got either 2 or 3 years no interest no payments. were in august now and in a couple months we'll know what hot deals are there for lcd's and plasmas. i would just wait unless you need it now. How did i get it for that price? I pm best buy $999 price to thir $1700 price...pm plus 10% difference

Sounds like we got the roughly the same deal. I bought last years model (th42px60u) for $678 after taxes using the BB HD advantage deal + PM + $200 panasonic discount
EDIT: Not a Black Friday Deal

I get 'bent outta shape' because I called Sears customer service first to ask if they would price match to frys and my rep told me they would. It is not a trivial drive to my closest Sears...
Sears now has the TH-42PX75U for $1050 and the TH-42PX77U for $1150, so the final cost with 15% coupon and Cash Back would be $850 and $930. Now we are talking.

Of course his was a BMW & mine was a Toyota.
Why do people post crap like this? And Black Friday is a once a year thing. You can't compare every deal to something that happened last Nov.

Not really comparing deals rather than making a observation that in the past years lcd/plasma prices have fallen dreamatically and this past year i guess that really isn't the case considering that the top of the line panny plasma from 10 months ago sold for 40% less. Is it the same model...no but the differences are not huge. does it display as nice a hd and analog pic as this one yes. my point is that for today this is probably a good/great deal but with black friday a couple months away i would personally wait

Last year, it was next to impossible to land the Black Friday HDTV special around here However, the prices will continue down just like computer equipment and a better deal will show up every week/month. I personally think the 50" units will be under a $1K very soon.

I bought that Phillips 50" for 900 a couple weeks ago. I sold it on craigslist for more htan I bought it though...I still don't think the quality compares to the Panny's I have had in the past, thats why I am so pumped about this deal. I agree, it's hard to get the exact model you want at a good price on black friday...this panasonic is the one I have been wanting for months!
What's everyone's take on the 77u anti-glare compared to the 75u? I was sold on the 42" 77U mostly for the anti-glare at $930, but the 50" 75U without that feature is only $240 more. Too bad they do not have the 50" 77U model for $340 more. I've looked at both side by side and the 77U does reflect less light, but it still has a reflection.

I did the same thing with the 50" model of this. TH-50PX75U. Exact same method. At Sears.
However, I didn't get it below $1.3K because they buy it for cost at 1.3K and that'd be... wrong. But a hell of a deal. So I ended up buying at cost, so still an incredible deal.
Apparently, this TV has a native resolution of 720p, normally. But it can accept signals and show them in 1080p if you connect through an alternate device (i.e. PS3, etc) -- at least, from what I've heard. For 1080p Plasma 50", you can't beat the price.
Did it with a payment plan so 18 months no interest (even though I could pay it off now, I want to build some credit since I just graduated and have virtually... none), and got the warranty which transfers to any NEW TV's if the old one is replaced, unlike Worst Buy. Furthermore, they'll come to your house and fix it, take care of EVERYTHING. Panasonic is apparently also offering a new service/thing on their website with their Plasma's -- not sure if it applies to this, but it says to "All new Plasma owners" New plasma's or new owner's? Not sure.
But got it down to about $1800-1900 after tax, warranty, fat cash, and the like. TV was like $1,350 or so on it's own -- so not bad.

Sears sales ppl appliances and a/v are paid 100% commission - so it is in their interest to make the deal go through... I have found that they are always easy to work with on PM's. If you find one that wont.... come back and find another

Someone else on the forums said they signed for the coupon on a monday and got it by saturday....I am going to hold out. With FatCash, I can get the 77U for 921! Woohoo! I am also driving to Delaware to save the extra $50 in taxes

I hate to tell you, but it is impossible for this TV to display at 1080p. This TV has a native resolution of 1024x768. It WILL display 1080p CONTENT (sources), but at a scaled 768p (720p) image. There are only 1024x768 pixels. It can not magically create the additional pixels. Instead it takes the 1080p signal, and uses the magic of computing to down scale the image to fit the native resolution. Someone is feeding you a bunch of misinformation. If it was so easy to do this, everyone would by this TV and never buy the 700/750 series.
Hope this information helps.

Will it display 1080i content correctly? Or scaled down to 720p? My understanding is that 720p actually has more lines of resolution than 1080i. Thanks for the help.

Where does Sears have the 77U? I saw only the 75U on sale there. B&M or what?

Progressive (p) is generally better than interlaced (i), but not always. I have a SONY 34" widescreen CRT that is only 1080i. But it still has a better looking picture than almost any other TV out today (and it's 3.5 years old). It also weighs 200 lbs and is more than 3 feet deep. (Anyone want to buy it - Cheap)
The Panasonic 75U TV will display 1080i or 1080p fine (ok, better than fine, super duper). It will just be at 720p (or really 768p). This panel is limited by its native resolution. That is 1024x768. So everything is going to be at 768p (or scaled to something close based on the zoom setting you choose). Doesn't matter the source of the content or what number it was orignally recorded. 1080i broadcasts are going to be scaled. 720p broadcasts are going to be scaled. That's just the nature of the TV. That being said, it will look very good doing any of the above. What is more important is picking the panel that will fit your viewing distance. A 42" 1080p panel (TH-PZ700U) at 8 feet or more isn't going to give you any improvement over the 720 TV. However, the 50" 1080p panel will, to about 10-11 feet. Then you are again better off saving the money and getting a 720 TV.
This is a generalization, and your eyes might be better than perfect and a 720 will look bad to you past these distances, but on average, you are not going to get any benefit beyond those numbers.
Use 15 % coupon (without coupon its 1150) + FatCash to get it for ~$930.
Does this answer your question?
Thanks for the linky...
Yes it does.
Really want the 50PX77U though.... Don't see that one.

FWIW: I signed up for the coupon on two separate e-mail addresses and received both exactly 5 days later (signed up Aug. 3 and received coupon Aug. 8). I would give one away, since they expire tomorrow, but you have to access it through the link in the e-mail. This also means, I believe, that you cannot combine the 15% coupon with the 5% Cash Back.
Edit: just to clarify, there is no code so nothing that can be given away. It is specific to your Sears account. But some people have had success getting the 15% discount applied immediately after signing up by calling customer service after placing the order.

Rebate Success!
Got it credited back to my card!
Had to escalate it several times.
Rebate Center says this model is not included. Don't take NO!
Escalate it, go to a supervisor then go to the main Sears.com center! (1-800-549-4505)
