Was it the same model and brand? Once, I was able to buy a car for half what my friend paid. Of course his was a BMW & mine was a Toyota.

Why do people post crap like this? And Black Friday is a once a year thing. You can't compare every deal to something that happened last Nov.

Not really comparing deals rather than making a observation that in the past years lcd/plasma prices have fallen dreamatically and this past year i guess that really isn't the case considering that the top of the line panny plasma from 10 months ago sold for 40% less. Is it the same model...no but the differences are not huge. does it display as nice a hd and analog pic as this one yes. my point is that for today this is probably a good/great deal but with black friday a couple months away i would personally wait

I love Black Friday and the deals just as much as anyone, however there will be only 1 main HDTV special per store chain and the chances of getting the best deal and best model on that day requires you to invest at least an evening out in the cold. Last year, it was next to impossible to land the Black Friday HDTV special around here However, the prices will continue down just like computer equipment and a better deal will show up every week/month. I personally think the 50" units will be under a $1K very soon.

I bought that Phillips 50" for 900 a couple weeks ago. I sold it on craigslist for more htan I bought it though...I still don't think the quality compares to the Panny's I have had in the past, thats why I am so pumped about this deal. I agree, it's hard to get the exact model you want at a good price on black friday...this panasonic is the one I have been wanting for months!

I did the same thing with the 50" model of this. TH-50PX75U. Exact same method. At Sears.

However, I didn't get it below $1.3K because they buy it for cost at 1.3K and that'd be... wrong. But a hell of a deal. So I ended up buying at cost, so still an incredible deal.

Apparently, this TV has a native resolution of 720p, normally. But it can accept signals and show them in 1080p if you connect through an alternate device (i.e. PS3, etc) -- at least, from what I've heard. For 1080p Plasma 50", you can't beat the price.

Did it with a payment plan so 18 months no interest (even though I could pay it off now, I want to build some credit since I just graduated and have virtually... none), and got the warranty which transfers to any NEW TV's if the old one is replaced, unlike Worst Buy. Furthermore, they'll come to your house and fix it, take care of EVERYTHING. Panasonic is apparently also offering a new service/thing on their website with their Plasma's -- not sure if it applies to this, but it says to "All new Plasma owners" New plasma's or new owner's? Not sure.

But got it down to about $1800-1900 after tax, warranty, fat cash, and the like. TV was like $1,350 or so on it's own -- so not bad.

I hate to tell you, but it is impossible for this TV to display at 1080p. This TV has a native resolution of 1024x768. It WILL display 1080p CONTENT (sources), but at a scaled 768p (720p) image. There are only 1024x768 pixels. It can not magically create the additional pixels. Instead it takes the 1080p signal, and uses the magic of computing to down scale the image to fit the native resolution. Someone is feeding you a bunch of misinformation.
If it was so easy to do this, everyone would by this TV and never buy the 700/750 series.

Will it display 1080i content correctly? Or scaled down to 720p? My understanding is that 720p actually has more lines of resolution than 1080i. Thanks for the help.

Progressive (p) is generally better than interlaced (i), but not always. I have a SONY 34" widescreen CRT that is only 1080i. But it still has a better looking picture than almost any other TV out today (and it's 3.5 years old). It also weighs 200 lbs and is more than 3 feet deep. (Anyone want to buy it - Cheap)

The Panasonic 75U TV will display 1080i or 1080p fine (ok, better than fine, super duper). It will just be at 720p (or really 768p). This panel is limited by its native resolution. That is 1024x768. So everything is going to be at 768p (or scaled to something close based on the zoom setting you choose). Doesn't matter the source of the content or what number it was orignally recorded. 1080i broadcasts are going to be scaled. 720p broadcasts are going to be scaled. That's just the nature of the TV. That being said, it will look very good doing any of the above. What is more important is picking the panel that will fit your viewing distance. A 42" 1080p panel (TH-PZ700U) at 8 feet or more isn't going to give you any improvement over the 720 TV. However, the 50" 1080p panel will, to about 10-11 feet. Then you are again better off saving the money and getting a 720 TV.

This is a generalization, and your eyes might be better than perfect and a 720 will look bad to you past these distances, but on average, you are not going to get any benefit beyond those numbers.
