- Also, is there a way to make the Skype calls ring with a different ring pulse so i can differentiate between a Skype call and a PTSN call? I notice the pulse is slightly shorter, but if I can make it ring with 2 pulses per ring it'd make it apparent that a Skype call is in da house.

Based on *ZERO* TOTAL TIME using this type of device (my two are still in their original boxes), I'd say:- Certainly! Why not? Isn't it obvious?
Oh, btw, did you need details? (Same plan as when I needed my HAL Home Automation modem to be available at all phones on the property)- Disconnect / cut your incoming POTS line at your service entrance point (piece-of-cake if you have a NID)
- Run the POTS line to your device (modem, Skype adapter) IN and run the device OUT back to your service entrance point, terminating in a RJ-11 box
- Plug the wire that ORIGINALLY fed all the phones into the new RJ-11 box
- POWER UP and TEST.
A potential problem would be the modem, Skype device not being able to supply sufficient ringing current so check your total REN first.
- Not that I'm aware of. Wouldn't that be "design-specific" to the Skype adapter's internal circuit board?
Thanks for the advice. I know what you mean. But the computer is nowhere near where the service entrance point is. So what is a NID? Google says it could be: 1) a fictional shadowy intelligence agency in the television series Stargate SG-1. 2) Network Interface Device As for question number 2, I was hoping that it's either software driven, or something embedded in the firmware. |

WHAT are you referring to? Looks like I didn't hit the "quote" button after all. I was asking about jonnashville's question regarding the UPC required for rebate. jonnashville subsequently PM'd me that the silver barcode is actually the required UPC. |
