D40

A great camera, good price from an excellent seller.

This is highly recommended here:

Rockwell

By buying cheaper, you can save money for good glasses. Such as:

Nikon 18-200.

This will give you an excellent combo for great photography

As of Sept. 27, Costco added shipping (19.99)to the bundle. The total is $519.99 now

Keep in mind Costco's 90 day return policy on cameras.

Same thing minus the SD Card $499 at Sam's with better return policy...

I just bought this camera from BB after they gave me 12% off. This is cheaper and includes a 2GB card. BB sux! I am going to get my difference from them today.

I don't see it is a hot deal as pricegrabber has it for $515.98 shipped, no tax for most states.

I hope this deal drops like a rock so I can get one on BF.

would you light me on that this camera has:
1. 6.1M
2. CCD image sensor

I agree that 6.1M is Ok, but why pay $500+ for CCD instead of CMOS (Canon XT)?
Is this CCD as good as CMOS? What I'm missing?

tnx

CCD and CMOS are just different technologies. They both have pros and cons. It is hard to tell which one is superior.

Actually, some high end cameras are using CCD sensors. CCD are considered more expensive to produce.

Personally, I would like to pay a premium up to $50 to buy from Costco. You have 90 days to return it without incurring any restocking fee. Many cameras have some hot/dead pixels. It is not considered defect by Nikon. However, it is better to have as few as possible.

I bought this camera last month from an online retailer for 515.00 which included a 1gb sd card, no tax, no shipping.

Anyways,
I'm very happy with it and it takes great pics. I think anyone that buys this will be happy with it.

I agree..there are many places online like buydig.com etc and AbesOfMaine.com, which are reputed. I recently bought an olympus E-510 with two lens combo for $849 shipped..no tax. It is better to buy at these places, who are also authorized dealers than to pay shipping and tax for buying at Costco. 2GB SD Card is no big deal, when there are 4 gb SDHC cards out there in the market.

AT Buydig.com, D40 retails for $509.00 with Free shipping, NO tax (except for NJ) and free 1gb sd card.

i don't get your logic. a 2 gb card is not a big deal because? because it's not the biggest card?
so? there are bigger cards than your 4 gb sdhc. in fact, they go up way higher. there's an 8 gb. so now, if someone were to give you a 4 gb sdhc, would you not want it because it's not the largest?

It is not the question of largest card...am just trying to say that at costco the price to CA shipped would be approx $571 with tax with a 2gb sd card. Whereas at Buydig.com, with 1gb sd card , the price happens to be $509. So, see the difference for yourself. If i were to buy at costco, i would have to pay $62 extra just for the difference of 1gb sd. You can use that $62 difference to buy a 4gb SDHC card. I am not sure, if D40 supports 8 gig, but if it does, you can even go for that
So, the logic is simple.....

Ultimately, it is the end difference in price and warranty which matters....so, if i were to buy this camera, i would definitely recommend not to buy at costco....
