I tried searching for this and couldn't find it posted elsewhere...

Microsoft description

Offer website

Ultimate version contains: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, Accounting Express, Publisher, Access, InfoPath, Groove, OneNote

Microsoft Office 2007 Version Comparison

NOTE: Requires a valid e-mail address at a "higher education" institution in the US and 0.5 course hour workload or more. (Hot for those who can't get it from their university bookstore for cheaper.) Also, requires you to download the Office 2007 Ultimate trial software (or order a physical DVD for "a small charge") and then activate with product key that you get from your $60 purchase.

*** If you want to order the DVD, do NOT place your order yet. Their ordering process does not allow you to order the DVD, and there is a possibility that you won't be able to order the DVD if you've already ordered as a software download! ***

Link to order DVD delivery ($12.95)

REQUIREMENTS: Per Microsoft's detail page you must be able to provide proof of enrollment status (ie, student card) upon request by Microsoft.: "Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the full retail cost of the software ($679)"

Also, for those who get this: Do yourself a BIG favor and download all the updates from Microsoft after installing. This resolves many stability and PERFORMANCE issues. (Outlook 2007 is a dog until the patch is installed, but is snappy afterwards...)

A NOTE FROM THE INSIDE

They are currently working on a solution for students with non-.edu email addresses due to some institutions having .net addresses and so on. I’ll update here when I get the official word on when they will release that capability.

As stated below some universities do offer it for a cheaper price, but there are actually very few of them with that level of Student Select. The real issue we are encountering is this $59.95 price undermines the actual campus bookstore’s prices and they are not pleased. I don’t foresee this affecting the campaign as it is already rolled out and it is impossible to please everyone. Plus, they make enough off of textbook margins anyway.

Throughout the country there are Microsoft Student Partners like myself promoting campaigns such as this one.

If your school isn’t listed, please select: IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

(Note: this is not a referral and I don’t work on commission. It just helps our Marketing people track where our exposure is coming from. Thanks.)

If I get a positive response from the people of FatWallet, I’ll be more inclined to post similar campaigns and deals here before the public is aware of them.

Check with your university first, Microsoft has licensing agreements with most universities where you get MS software for very cheap. this usually runs about $30 at universities with licensing agreements.

Regarding Eligibility, notice this:

You must hold a valid email address at a U.S. educational institution ending in .edu (for example, leina@contoso.university.edu)
AND
Be actively enrolled with at least 0.5 course load.

Getting a Physical Copy:

If you are interested in receiving the CD, just write them an email. Yesterday, they sent me a link where I could order the physical CD. Here's the link:

If you are a student at SUNY Buffalo, you can buy Office 2007 at UBMicro for $8, or download for free from UB CIT.

If you are not a student or would prefer a free alternative to MS office then download OpenOffice.org. OpenOffice.org is free to distribute, free to use, and free to modify. Open Office writer uses the Open Document format to guarantee your work will be available at any point in the future on any platform. Also most Microsoft Office specific formats are supported in the Open Office suite.

Yeah Office 2007 is for PC only for now, they are working on the 2008 for OS X, which is Universal Binary.

Very hot, thanks OP. I was looking at buying the $120 version of Office Student as my wife's college doesn't offer discounted software but now she can save half the price and get Access as well.

Fantastic. Son's off to Chicago next week for school with Office 2002. It'll be great to get this for the price.

I'm happily using Office XP even though I have a copy of Office 2007 Pro handy. Not much difference other than the eye candy stuff like Vista. There's a bit of learning curve to it. Plus, it may not be compatible with older Office versions if you want other people to work on your file created by Office 2007.

Can this software be installed on two PCs used by the same student?

I was wondering the same thing. I have my laptop which I take to class and have a desktop in my room I use for everything else. Also, how does this work? When we buy it do they link us to an ISO that we download and burn?

Yeah, you can install office 2007 twice, but no more than that. I own a copy, and as long as you're the same user, you can install it at most on 2 different computers. Just for additional information, this is different than windows, in which you can only install windows on one computer.
