My girlfried got a laptop with Vista and installed Office 2007. So everytime I help her do something in Word, Excel, etc. I have to go find the functions that I've been using for 10 years. Leave it to MS to justify a software "upgrade" by moving crap around as though it's better in a new place. Next plan? They'll change my keyboard layout because there are more efficient ways to type. Thanks MS for making us LESS productive in the name of productivity. How about you just focus on making Windows boot as fast as my Playstation. THEN you'll save us some time. Until then, let me go back to Office97 when it worked. |

For those of you who will be sending documents/spreadsheets to people who aren't upgraded to Office 2007 will need to go into the settings of the program and change the default save settings from .docx (.pptx, .xlsx, etc) to an Office 2003 and lower compatible format. Do a google search on how to do this, very simple. The first few times I sent homework to professors in the .docx format, they weren't able to open them. FYI, University of Missouri-Columbia offers Office 2007 and Vista Business to its students for $69.99 each, you can purchase through the bookstore website (with university ID and password)

Where is OP seeing this is download only? Even with HSI, that's a whole lot of bloat to download. Most university software will come with a CD/DVD sleeve and no documentation. My company had a deal with Office 2003 Professional for $19.99 a few years back (thanks to our volume license with MS); we had to enter a valid e-mail (our company e-mail, of course) on the offer website and then received back (via that e-mail) a link to the MS secure order site. But we still received the CD. I doubt this is download only. |

I upgraded to 2007 and it runs slower on my machine (I have asus z71v if you're curious). Also the layout is slightly different from other versions. It is backward compatible and you can save files as 97 - 03 version. Works fine, but I prefer xp. |

It does take a couple days to get used to, but I think it's more usable than the old interface. There are alternate keyboard layouts that are generally better. ie dvorak and I don't think the PS is that fast, gran tourismo loading screens are annoying, and long. |

For you non-college people, you can try to access the Home Use Program: http://hup.microsoft.com You need a Program Code however, so ask your IT department. I think if your company has a MSDN subscription?, the Program Code is included I can get the Office 2007 Enterprise for $19.99 (almost as the same as Office Ultimate) |

Do you expect MS to come and verify every individual who graduated? Well, I certainly understand that. But if you are going to pirate anyway, y don't u just pick up a free copy off p2p networks? Is it different in this case if we continue to use it after graduation? Thanks. |

I suggest contacting your school's computer store first and see if they offer a discounted price. I go to a college where we get this for $35 (or maybe less) on a daily basis. Just a thought. |

Neat. My local bookstore sells Office 2007 S&T for $80, and Office 2007 Pro for $90. The latter says one install only, though I'm not sure if it's a VLK or what. Maybe I'll pick up Office 2007.. I'll definitely pass this on to a friend as she needs it for her ICS class. EDIT: Microsoft should really consider a similar program (direct from them, since some bookstores aren't as cheap as others) with other software. It counteracts piracy. Make something too expensive, then students can't afford it and get it elsewhere. Better to sell cheaper than none at all right? |

I'm so glad my school downloads this on all computers. I don't have to worry about buying it and fixing it when it tears up. Thank goodness for that $50 technology fee. Should be a pretty hot deal though, this crap is expensive. |

spectrex said:Yeah, you can install office 2007 twice, but no more than that. I own a copy, and as long as you're the same user, you can install it at most on 2 different computers. Just for additional information, this is different than windows, in which you can only install windows on one computer. Good to hear. I intend to install it on my primary desktop and primary laptop. The rest will stay with Office 2000. I actually prefer Office 2003 but at this price, I may as well be current and get 2007. |

Haifa said:I don't know about other universities but university of Minnesota has an agreement with Microsoft that allows each student to purchase Office 2007 and Windows Vista for ~$4 (yes, four dollars). You will have to sign in using your student account (X500). The $4 are for a CD you come to pick up. If you just download it, it's free (or at least was last year). My department at Columbia has the same thing. It's completely free for all the students and staff, but it's because of a subscription the department has for MS software. It's download or download/burn only tho. |

What's with the big timer on the page counting down till the deal is available? is this site legit? it sounds fishy to me. *edit*...just read the MSFT description of the program. I didn't realize it was microsoft sponsored and that it was just set to debut today. When it opens, do you think it's gonna be like a woot-off when a bag of crap comes on? are all the fatwalleters and slickdealers going to crash the site? |
