Got this flier in the paper today for new subscriptions for the Los Angeles Times. Only $20 a year for weekend plus home delivery (thurs, fri, sat, sun).
You must call 1-800-651-1219 by midnight , offer good today only 9-20-07

I tried to rerate my sub, but it was a no go , said I needed an sp code - but new subscribers dont need as long as they call the number on the flier.

UPDATE: I called number above and used upgrade subscription option #2, and spoke with csr and she asked if I wanted the $20 deal and I said yes. She asked if I was a new subscriber or had a subscription and I said I had one already and she asked if I wanted to renew at the new price I said yes and she took down all my info , and said new one would start when old one finished in a week.

United Airlines also offers Los Angeles Times and other newspapers in exchange for frequent flier miles.
1000 miles for Sunday, 1250 for Thursday through Sunday and 2600 for 7-day delivery.

Thanks OP. My current promo rate is just about up. I guess I might have to cancel and re-sign up as a new subscriber.

I am not satisfied with the quality of the LA Slimes. Has anyone gotten a similar deal for the LA Daily News?

Does anyone know if when you register online for their site, can you read ALL of the articles available in their print version?

Make sure that you do not give them your actual phone number. Their telemarketers call you until you change your number. (They do not honor the do not call registry or individual requests not to call).

They will force 2 free weeks on you and start billing you at the weekly rate after that..

Has happened to me at the last 4 residences.

I just cancelled my old subscription and signed up for this annual one. I was told they will charge $20 right away for the entire year. Subcription would start in 1 week Thur,Fri,Sat and Sunday. This is fine cos I was paying $39 for a yr till now.

Although I sympathize with your position on the quality of the Time's reporting, even I get the Times on Sunday for the coupons. At $20 for a year, you'll more than pay for your subscription with what you save at the market.

No you don't have to cancel and sign-up again. Just give them a call and tell them that you want to sign up for new offer and they will do it. I just did this.

The Do Not Call Registry does not apply if you have an existing business relationship, so they get out of it that way. They should honor direct requests not to call, but I guess that comes down to a company's ethics.
