Nothing noteworthy for BB.

Except for the 50" 1080p Panny plasma (50PZ77U) on the cover that has to be a price mistake at $1709, which is $1000 less than it's selling for most other places.

(The price is likely for the 42" version, but the model number is for the 50" version). No way it will go through at BB, but you may be able to get a PM at some other retailer who doesn't catch it.

EVERYONE, DONT keep this on the down low. Best Buy has lurkers that scan Fatwallet and SD for this exact stuff so they can leave it incorrect and not change it ahead of time and not post signs in their store. Same with CC.

Ok... OP, can you remove the "Best Buy Ad Scans" from your title... and replace with "NOT Best Buy Ad Scans"?? That'll throw them off...

The more we talk about it the worse it will be. I expect from all the obsessive compulsive behavior members that there will be 50,000 views and 1,000 posts by midnight.

I called my local Best Buy to ask about the price on the Panny tv. The CSR didn't know so the savvy consumer that I am, I demanded to speak to the store mgr. Well he wanted to know how I knew the info.about the coming ad so soon and I told him FatWallet! He believes it's a huge price mistake and was going to call corporate to fix it.

I appreciate your dedication.

It's our responsibility as consumers to help the big box retail stores out. It's the least we can do after all the excellent treatment we've received from them.

He's joking....

However I find it funny that he probably thinks he can walk into BestBuy after the correction prices are posted and walk out with the Panny magically $100 less than advertised in the AD solely based on his wits and good looks from the male manager.

They dont call him peakmaster for nothin'

Nice troll.

What is up with the 1 TB Western Digital drives? I never even heard of the WD10000CS models or that WD is coming out with TB drives... let alone low-power-consumption ones!

Edit: The model is WD10EACS on the WD website and sells for $350; $90 more than BBs price.

Ha! New member No. New account yes. For CC 10% FTW link discount. You should think about doing the same because your rep is seriously gone to hell today with your pissy remarks.

With a comment like that you may actually be a noob...if you think shingletinkle's rep is ruined from his asinine remarks in THIS thread, you're sorely mistaken (check 90% of the Buy.com threads over the past 2-3 months for proof that his rep was shot long before these idiotic remarks).

FWIW, televisions, "especially" in the Plasma market, are marked up to terribly high prices. Being one that used to work in retail, I often saw Plasma TV's marked up to 200% above store cost. That means a TV that might run $1,000 for a store to carry, retails for $3,000. So I wouldn't be too quick to assume it's a huge price mistake and that Best Buy is going to be losing tons of money on the deal, the sale price may very well reflect their cost, or even a couple hundred bucks above their cost still!

shingletingle said: Nothing noteworthy for BB.

I love how the BB and CC threads get the "hot" icon every week on the main page when they're first posted, and then when you get into the thread everybody promptly craps all over everything...

Yes, of course I am for real. I am a Christian and cannot stand to see dishonesty and deception. Those are the ways of the devil. I will also follow up with the store manager and his corporate partner to ensure that the situation has been corrected for everyone.

That's odd because from what I understand retailers have been taking a beating on TVs for at least the past year or so. Every time you read an earnings report from some big box store, they always point out that they got hammered on TVs becuase the competition was so cut-throat. Part of this has been from new entrant high-end TV retailers like Wal-Mart and new entrant brands like Westinghouse and Olevia, and part of it's been because manufacturing capacity for LCD screens in particular has been ramped up so much.

Oh boy, this ought to be good by the time all the troll bait weighs in...

JonesBeach said: That's odd because from what I understand retailers have been taking a beating on TVs for at least the past year or so.....

Just speaking from experience and seeing the "true" price behind TV's, that and Audio Components (cables of course, and receivers and the like) generally have a terrible markup. And one thing you will find, is this very high markup price is reflected accross all of the local stores in the market, with the possibility of one store being a little bit cheaper.

Some of the smoking hot TV deals posted on here are definately below retailer cost, and I am sure are losing stores money unless they sell add-ons to bring th percentiles up. But as said, TV's, from my experience, generally have a pretty nasty mark-up price on them, and Plasma's always seemed to be the worst. Projection Televisions, and Projectors were the 2nd worst, and actually, LCD Televisions generally had very low mark-ups.

An example of what I saw on a regular basis for cost vs. "retail price" (not sale/clearance price):

$800 cost LCD TV = $999-1199 Retail Price
$800 cost Projector = $999-$1499 Retail Price
$800 cost Projection TV = $999-$1599 Retail Price
$800 cost Plasma TV = $999-$3000 Retail Price

Just food for thought really, not trying to prove anything, but when it comes to big markdowns on TV's, don't expect to be seeing the "cheapest" price a retailer could really offer you. But I will agree that when it comes to LCD TV's, the prices are very cut throat and stores are constantly selling at around cost or even below cost to get masses of consumers to come in and buy sets that are on sale, although with the bigger the brand name, the bigger the mark-up usually (as in Sharp usually had the highest mark-up, while actually "costing" about the same as other cheaper models). Olevia on the other hand have really low mark-ups generally and are sold near cost, even with a standard retail price to sell through tons of Olevia TV products, then it's all about selling the add-ons and warranties!

Thanks for the post!

I have no idea when you worked in retail...however I can assure you on vast majority of plasmas at best buy and Circuit City and fry's this is not the case. They are trying to sell warranties. They make so little on the product itself. For example Costco sells Vizio Plasmas and Lcds at 1500 for a 50 inch plasma. The most Costco makes on ANY item is 15%. If you want to assume 15% on the VIzio which might be a little high their cost is $1275.00. Now how in the world does Best Buy get a Panasonic for 1K? The stuff is much lower margins. Now super high end stuff has more juice but the days of huge markups are long over.

I totally agree. Don't forget Vizio. One of the biggest producers of plasma tvs in the world now.

My local BB already has a sign on the door stating the price on the 50" Panny was incorrect and they would not be honoring it. Frigging FW effect.

Be at your local Sears when they open on Sunday with the BB ad in hand and pricematch for immediate pickup.

Sears does not yet have this item on their website. Do you know if they will have it by Sunday?

btw, what is the earliest you can usually get your hands on a copy of the ad?

Your local newspaper would have the inserts already, thats how so many get a preview.
Talk your way into them giving you one.

"Senior Member" = 200 posts made. THAT'S IT. Someone made two hundred posts. Nothing more. No special knowledge. JUST 200 POSTS. THAT'S IT. Having "Senior Member" under your name doesn't meak jack. In fact, it means abso-freakin'-lutely NOTHING. Other than you've MADE 200 POSTS. Do you see a trend here? Oh, and did I mention, it only takes 200 posts to get the coveted title of "Senior Member"?

Sweet jeebus, FW needs to drop that moniker. Replace it with just "Member", and save the "Senior Member" for something else. Maybe it has to be earned or you have to be nominated for it.
