Ever since we got the Delonghi Magnifica from the Starbucks deal, we're consuming a lot more coffee. I hope these will produce great espresso to last us a while... thanks OP.

I ordered 3 bags a few days ago and they shipped today. Since I "only" go through about 1lb/week, I am going to divide the beans up after opening the bag and store them in 2 separate air tight containers. Sure, they won't be as nice or fresh as freshly roasted beans but for less than half of what I usually pay for high quality espresso beans, I'm willing to make the sacrifice for the sake of my wallet.

Got three...but dont need that much. Anyone in the Denver metro want to buy a 2.2 lb bag from me for $11? Pretty much my cost. PM if interested.

I would not recommend to use this coffee on a drip coffeemaker - reason is very simple - drip coffees are dominantly Robusta beans - espresso are dominantly Arabic beans - Arabic gives you bitterness espresso is famous for - I would assume it wouldn't work well in drip machine!? I have never tried this, but you don't know until you try!? This is my theory. I could be wrong!

Well, you got the Arabica and Robustas backwards, but otherwise you are mostly right. Robusta's are the bitter ones.

Coffee shop blends for drip seldom have any Robusta in them, but domestic major brands often do.

Here is an interesting link on Maxwell House removing Robusta from their blend.

If you like strong coffee, then this stuff may well work for you as a drip, but Misurick is right, its an espresso blend.

This is one of the most debated questions about storing coffee beyond two weeks. My answer is to put it in the freezer in an air tight double bag if you will not be using it within 2 weeks. I agree, do not put them in the refrigerator. Experiment. Take some of your extra coffee and put it in the freezer and put the rest in a cool dark place and compare them at a later time. (The frozen coffee will be better.)

Robusto or Arabica

There are two major species of coffee grown for commercial use, “robusto” and “arabica” beans. The Robusto bean grows at lower elevations, has a higher yield per plant, and is more disease resistant than is its arabica relative. Robusto beans are noteworthy for their harsh, dirty flavor and contain twice as much caffeine as what’s found in the arabica bean. The arabica bean, which grows best at higher elevations, is the source of the world’s great coffees. About 75 percent of the world’s total coffee production is arabica.
