Tom's Hardware Video Card Comparison

Consider the 2600 XT - about the same in performance, and a cheaper price. This is not really a hot deal, unless you really want the game. And then there is the rebate issue. Newegg.com has the 8600gts at about 129 bucks (after rebate.) This card is by far superior. A better investment. Click the Tom's link above and note that he reviews video cards monthly, "best bang for the buck" IMHO.

BTW - this card is $89.00 at Newegg after rebate.

Tom is no longer affiliated with Tom's hardware. He doesn't review anything anymore. Quite frankly their site has gone to hell. Their reviews are no longer credible.

can you provide a link on Newegg that say $89.00 after rebate?

because this XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB at newegg gives me 109.99 after rebate which have the same manufacture model number as zipzoomfly

I stand corrected, I did not know tom left.

As fas as the 2800gt, it is from a different manufacture. this one is for 89 link This deal is only lukewarm at best, and ONLY if you wanted the game.

Agreed! I checked their site almost daily few years ago, but not anymore.is there another website with good pc component reviews? I used to always go there first when researching parts for a new pc.

i used this card with xp,ubuntu, and finally vista (team-mediaportal.com) the vista support is solid, it is a cinema card without hdcp (perfect for people that don't do DRM). where it is weak in high resolution gaming, it can smoke the 8800GTX in High defintion playback (cpu usage).

the fact that it doesn't have HDCP and is a cinema (htpc) card makes it a hard sell.

Yah anyone know a good newer site to do these comparisons? I started with Tom's, went to sharkeyextreme for "bang for the buck" reviews, and eventually supplemented Tom's with anandtech. All of them have since become famous and moved on to bigger things. (Anand's might still be good, haven't been there in a while)

come on now, tom has been paid off even when he was there so the reviews were a bit shady either way.
