This one beats the CC deal because it has not only USB 2.0 / esata , but also Firewire 400.

Just so people know, this drive has a swappable interface card. One is eSATA/USB one is FireWire. So if you plan on using this drive a lot between systems, it's a bit of a pain to have to swap out/in the interface cards. This is a good price for this drive, though.

My Costco has these instore for $199.99.
Also available on their website, but with $10 shipping Link

Just in case somebody has a Costco near, but no Fry's.

I bought one of these to expand space on my MOXI DVR. Seems like a nice drive - the case is silent, and so far always cool to the touch. I'd have preferred if it could be laid flat (the foot of the drive contains the connectors, so you can't take it off, and you can't orient the drive any other way), but other than that I'm pretty happy.

A note to anyone wanting to use this for a MOXI: make sure you disable the drive's sleep mode through your PC first (it's an option in the software installed on the drive), the MOXI can't wake the drive up, so you won't have access to the space if you leave sleep mode enabled.

I could swear I saw these for $179 at my Costco yesterday. Maybe it was the non pro version.

These are in stores as well.

Even the usb, eSata version is called the "Pro".

The firewire version just includes a removeable module to enable firewire.

Want to know down $10, try to buy from Staples ($299) & ask for the PM.
But beware Staples may charge the express shipping fee.

Does anyone know if the current deals mean that the 1TB FreeAgent is coming soon?

FYI, Staples PM is now 100% (down from 110%), so unless you're doing something else to sweeten this deal, there's not much benefit to buying from Staples over Frys.

Reviews @ newegg

this doesnt look like it comes with an esata cable if esata is a selling point for you.

Good price and 5 year warranty for a retail product is nice though.

Anyone recomend a decent eSATA pci port or other to utilize these drives, a few people are usuing these on TiVo series 3 and cox DVR? TIA

will these work with directtv and TiVo DVR's?

Yes and No.

This is the drive many at dbstalk forum use to expand the storage of their Directv HR20's. All you have to do for that is get an eSata cable, hook it up, and restart the DVR.

As for TiVo DVR's I'm not sure about the new ones but the old ones required you to replace the drive and they used PATA drives. This drive has an SATA drive as the internal drive so wouldn't work for those. Unless they have switched to SATA (the one I hacked is about 5 years old now)

Edit: The reason most at DBStalk use this drive is because it has been available at Costco and Circuit City recently for $200. But from what I read this drive has better reviews at the same price point.

This will work for external storage on the TiVo Series 3, or the TiVo HD. All other TiVo's are SD only, and do not support external drives (this is for standalone TiVo's, don't know about the DTV ones).
Also I'm not sure if the eSATA port is active on the TiVo HD yet - it's supposed to be up and running by the end of the year, though.
